I want a career in business (finance), as you can tell from the title of this thread. So will I get accepted into NYU Stern? What colleges should I apply for regular decision if I get rejected ED?

Here are colleges I will apply to regular decision if I get rejected:
UMich (they use only soph and junior year grades for their GPA calculation, so my UMich GPA would be 3.8 instead of 3.75)
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Lehigh University
Villanova University
Babson College
Rutgers University (safety)

i believe that u have a good shot at stern since u applied early decision. Your extra curriculars are a little weak though so that could decrease your chances a little. If you believe that your essays were on the page of good to excellent then i see no reason for you to get denied. Worst i think that could happen is for you to get deferred to regular decision where u have another shot. percent chance of acceptance: 50-75%

If you do get denied or deferred then u should apply to UVA or (if u dont mind about far distances) UC Berkeley, but those arent guaranteed acceptances so make sure u apply to a safety school.

But dont worry about it you have a good shot at acceptance

Yeah I might apply RD to UVA, but UCB is too far away. And NYU doesnt have a defer for ED, its either accept or reject, and I cant reapply RD if I get rejected. So its basically a hit or miss situation for me.

ECs are a little on the generic side so I hope you made something of them through your essays. Were it not for your GPA, I wouldn't hesistate to say in ED at Stern. You have pretty good chances though (nice test scores), so I would say like 40-65% chance in. Good luck and thanks for your response to my thread!

You have a strong chance of getting in, strong EC's, Stern is very compeitive though, I would say good chance with ED, if you had applied regular decision it would have been (Low/Mid reach), even if you do get rejected there's other good schools out there with your Sat score range, like Rice, Cornell, even Columbia......

Since the school is so competivie, the deciding factor may be your essays.....

A warning about UVA: as a public university, it's extremely hard to get into from out of state. I would consider it a reach school for ANYONE applying from outside Virginia.

haha Hey! How are you, it is great to see so many desi's out on college confidential! I feel as though your raw statistics are rather good for Stern, however, that is not something that will get you into Stern nowadays. It takes more extracurriculars, and I see that yours do not have a specific "purpose" I suppose, and that will hurt you. FBLA looks impressive, but you did not state any leader positions, and you started late considering you had the chance Freshmen year. ( At least you should have if you didn't). I believe that your raw grades will get you into Stern, but looking at your resume through the perspective of an admissions officer at Stern, I would say you have a good shot at Stern. All of your extra curriculars ( not to be too harsh, I just can't write this as a friend, but an admission officer instead) besides # 3,8, and 9 ( from your CC resume) are unrelated in any fashion to Finance, which you stated was your prospective major. Even though you should have plenty of EC's, you have to make sure that the EC's you enroll yourself in are completed thoroughly, and look impressive on paper. I do not mean to be too harsh, i just want to give you the most exact evaluation possible. GPA with increasing trend, SAT, AP's, and SAT II will probably be your strong point, and if I had to put a bet on it, I would say you will get into Stern, however, you should know there is a lot of competition, and you are definitely a strong candidate. Good luck!

^Thanks for your reply. Yeah I know, most of my below average to average ECs have nothing to do with business (hospital volunteering lol). This is what I think will affect me the most, cant really do much to change it now. Hopefully the admissions officers will like my essays/recs.

Yes, your essays and recommendations really will help you if you wrote them flawlessly. I had a recommendation from a head supervisor at merill lynch, so that will help me with ED at Stern too! So yeah, we are both competing to get into Stern, and i do think we can both get in. Your Raw scores are better, while my EC's look a little more polished, what do you think? Good luck man!

No, actually the Math II score, and the SAT Match I is the largest determining factor for most business schools. Having 780 for Math SAT II and 750 for SAT I is a very large factor in your acceptance to Stern! Good luck! If you really want to know whether you can get in or not, or whether you are wondering about anything regarding Stern. Go to these sites, they have helped me make my last decision and made me want to go really badly!
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign- I don't know much about this, but probably match
Stern -Semi reach
Lehigh University-In.
Villanova University-Match
Babson College - High match
Rutgers University- Definitely in.

Nice stats, especially SAT. (I'm not exactly the kind of CC'er who thinks anything under 2400 is shameful) Best of luck!

Hey yeah! no problem, I loved the sites that I sent you, they really really helped me make my decision about going to NYU, the collegeclicktv thing was really useful because they were unbiased students who gave their opinions on what they believed NYU was like. Good luck man, you have a great chance. Good luck! Oh and ahha i like the twinkle twinkle, thank god my family isn't like that haha. Good luck.
