Umich decision procedure is such a headache!

BTW muzicgirl89, when they said we should receive something in the mail in the next day or two is that specifically for you or for all of us still waiting?

BTW muzicgirl89, when they said we should receive something in the mail in the next day or two is that specifically for you or for all of us still waiting?

i guess im in the same boat as all of you guys , applied nov 28, last document was in dec 10...still waiting.

it was for me specifically, sorry.

You can call and ask how far along they are with your application.

Sigh. I hope it's waitlist for me.

never knew michigan was so competitive! everyone said it was my low match/safety...go figure

then again everything is harder this year.

i'm still waiting too :( i applied end of october for EA! by far the longest wait out of all of my colleges

Wow! I didn't know UMich reviewed on a first come first serve basis! I submitted my app late January...I guess I'm screwed!!

You're not screwed, dollybee10. We're all in this together :)

I have no idea. And I dont even have my UM ID number, so I cant even check online. I called them but I wasnt able to reach anyone... Sigh....

Volleysnap: My S applied in Nov and hasn't heard a thing. Waiting....and waiting.... Called the admin ofc and they said to "be patient".... (it's killing me more than my S, however, b/c I am an alum!!).

Haha I guess Michigan should label "patience" under factors considered for admission as "very important"
i guess it can't be more than a few weeks more now anyway...

I think this whole thing is utterly ridiculous. My D was deferred on December 10 and to have to wait until mid-April is really unfair - for her and everyone else. I think she's pretty much done with Michigan. Symphonyofsound, if UMich is a low match/safety, you must have amazing stats, because it's one of the most competitive public schools in the country.

im in a similar situation
was deferred in dec and am now anxiously waiting for a decision

"I think this whole thing is utterly ridiculous. My D was deferred on December 10 and to have to wait until mid-April is really unfair - for her and everyone else. I think she's pretty much done with Michigan."

then stop visiting the UMich forum; no one wants to hear your whining. they get 30,000 applications, each with three essays and a teacher recommendation. did you ever stop to think about how long it would take to go through all that information?

perhaps we shouldn't complain about it, but keep in mind there are plenty of better-performing schools that have given deferred students answers much earlier. And yes, they also have had huge application increases.

Not to beat up on Michigan but this is something it probably should work on.

Berkeley received 48k applications, and it gave out decisions in 4 months.

I'm not *****ing, just stating that Michigan needs to do a better job.

They have taken so long that I have moved on. After 7 acceptances I am not going to sit around waiting. Better schools have said yes sooner.

again, why are people like you even in this forum?

I don't buy the "they received record # of applications" story. Lots of schools did this year. Fordham received over 27,000 apps and were much more timely and open in their communication with my D.

Something is going on with U of M this year and it's a real turnoff. My D's guidance counselor (we are in-state) says he thinks they over-enrolled the last 2 years and are trying to make up for it this year.

I love U of M...and my daughter likely won't attend even if accepted...but this experience has been a real eye opener. D2 will apply in August !

what you people aren't realizing is that it's rolling admissions. an overwhelming majority of applicants have already received their decisions. there are pros and cons of the rolling system, and if you haven't received a decision by now, you're probably a borderline applicant.

Sorry, zdub, I know too many stellar applicants (not including my D in that group although she is most certainly a very strong applicant) that have not heard yet. I'm glad it worked out for you but there is no denying that something is strange with the process this year regardless of the rolling admissions.
