I'm pretty horrible at science. My Science knowledge pretty much goes up to 7th grade and that's it. Not that I ever did horrible in Science classes, it's just never made any sense to me. Should I still take the ACT or just stick with SAT. I would have posted this on the ACT forum but it seems a bit slow today.

From what I remember of it, I only took it once, it’s mainly just reading graphs and analyzing info with some basic science concepts thrown in.

ACT Science doesn’t really test knowledge you’ve learned in school. It’s all about knowing how to analyze graphs and work very quickly. :)

ACT science has little to do with science, really. It’s essentially reading comprehension with charts and graphs. I got a 36 on the science section, by the way, to add some support to this post.

ACT Science requires no science skill. As long as you can read graphs and think logically, you should ace it. The only problem most people have with the section is the time limits.

My tips to you:
-Don’t read the passage. You’ll run out of time.
-Read the questions and go back and hunt for the answers. This is far more efficient.
-Don’t make stupid mistakes. Be precise.
-That’s it. Really. There’s nothing else to it.

Me and my friend both aced this section and we both followed the above strategy. You’ll be fine.

ACT science doesn’t really test science. It tests how well you can read graphs. Do some practice questions and you’ll see what I mean.

science effed me over.

I walked out of there KNOWING i for sure did terrible…

but it somehow beat my SAT by far. i got a 34 act even with a 28 science.

i actually think you should read the passage, or atleast skim it. they test your knowledge of interpreting graphs in that section, so they will throw a few curveballs at you which can be hard to catch without reading the passages. plus, just skip the questions you think will take you longer and you will do fine

I completely agree with Big Kev. Biggest problem people have with the science is the time limit. Don’t second guess yourself and don’t dwell on questions or I can promise you’ll run out of time. If you have time at the end go back over answers you were unsure of. This is coming from somebody who got a 26, then a 28, and then a 36 on the Science section. First time I tried to read the passages, second time I still had time issues, and then the third I finally developed a good strategy (I’m sure luck was on my side that day, too :)). Good luck!

Like everyone else has said, the science section doesn’t test knowledge of science.

Skim through the passage, and then proceed with the questions. That’s what I did and I got 35 on my science section (I still want to know which one I got wrong).

you don’t even have to be able to infer.
I suck at reading comp (600 on the lit SATII) and I got a 36 on the science.
it’s seriously the easiest part of the ACT, it’s there to boost your composite

It’s dependent on your analysing ability.
