Anybody else not doing well on these tests ? It's pretty sad . I have a 3.85 GPA, unweighted... But my tests are just not high like most of you CCers . My SAT is only a 1650; my ACT is only a 27; SAT II: 540 (Math I), 610 (Math II), 630 (USH); I got a 3 on my AP USH exam.

I'm an average person, but I'm not an average Asian or CC'er.

Any of you out there like me? For those who have higher scores, can you please give me some tips? I would really appreciate them.

27 is 6 points above the national average so you’re definitely not in a bad spot.

Have you studied intensively? I wouldn’t recommend taking entire practice tests in a single sitting since you won’t really retain anything that way. Divide practice tests into smaller chunks and make sure you understand why the answer to each question is what it is. Post on the SAT or ACT forums if you’re stuck.

A 27 is a great score… above average really. don’t worry about not getting the same scores as some of the people on this website. Many people on here are some of the most highly motivated and talented students around. A 27 is good enough to get in many great schools. If you still want to get a higher score, however, you can always study more. But definitely don’t get discouraged.

My friend got into some really great schools with a 27 ACT, no SAT IIs, and a 3 on an AP test. Not Harvard or the like, but good schools that will provide her great opportunities.

I think students like you are the reason why many colleges went test-optional. There are many students like you - very bright, high achieving but horrible at these standardized exams. Take a look at these schools: [SAT/ACT Optional 4-Year Universities | FairTest](ACT/SAT Optional List - Fairtest)

Thank you everyone ! I’ve been practicing so much. So far, I’m improving little by little. My main problem is reading. I can’t read fast enough.

For reading, try putting small notes on the side about the paragraph so you can easily find the paragraph the question is looking for. Helped me and rose 3 points on that section.

Try a practice reading test with reading the answers BEFORE you read the passage. That way you’ll know what to look for as you read the passage and it will hopefully save you some time.

Thank you! I’m definitely going to try those. I’ve been trying different tactics. But I try to read more often to get used to it more. I hate it but it has to be done to improve.
