Okay...I received a 24 on the april act(first one...) and I am wondering what colleges this can get me into...I am a junior..4.15 gpa weighted( live in california)..tons of extra curriculars...many community service/volunteer @ hospital hours...work part time...

These sat/act tests really put me down...on the sat i averaged about 1650...same here..I just dont get what is wrong with me..i am an excellent student..work hard..do well in school..but when it comes these tests...i really fail big time. What should I do? stick with the 1650 on my sat? try to improve the act? I have until this October...please any comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated..thanks you guys!

If you're thinking about applying to the more competitive UCs, you should retake the ACT in June and October. Several timed practice tests can increase your score by several points - 24 to a high 20s is definitely possible. Good luck!

i'm in the exact same situation...except i didn't take the SAT lol. i'd say to keep trying on ACT and just leave the SAT alone...devote all your effort to the ACT.

i made a 24 on the April ACT too and am in the same situation as you, I'm just trying to study hard because like you said once october hits...it's OVER. That's just how you have to look at it.

I'm a junior and I took the Feb one and got a 23 with minimal studying, then the April one with a little more studying and got a 25 with some sections going up and others going down.

I'm going to buckle down, practice more, and get a tutor.

I'm REALLY banking on the July, September, and October ACTs and working my ass off to improve up to go from a 25 to a 30 and make the 5 point jump.

The SATs, well I'm devoting more of my time for the ACTs and my parents and everyone else think I'm crazy for that because down in the south no one takes the ACT its ALL about the SAT but seriously...I got like a 1540 on the PSAT (yeah, out of 2400). Getting a good score on the SAT for me, may be possiblie but I feel its more realistic with the ACT.

I use to be worried over my ACT score during the college admissions process ( I am a senior right now, ready to graduate!!! YAY!!!) I took it over seven times and I couldn't get passed over a 25 and I couldn't afford any of those expensive test prep classes, so I was stuck. However, my counselor still encourage me to apply to competitive colleges like Yale, Duke, USC, etc... Well, to make a long story short, I will be calling myself a Blue Devil this fall. Moral of this story: Most colleges grade your application as a whole. not based off one two-digit number. If you find yourself not being able to get over a certain score, don't let that deter you.
