Is this going to be a problem at Oberlin?
I don’t go to Oberlin, but the college I go to doesn’t have a rule on how long you can shower. I take long showers too and it hasn’t been a problem in the morning, afternoon or night; there haven’t been any complaints about it atleast. That being said, it’s courteous to others to not hog the shower in the morning since people have class, but there are multiple showers in that regard so…go crazy
It isn’t like California with water restrictions. You should be fine. My borderline Aspergers kid has found long showers relaxing since she was a little kid. Sometimes it was the only way to unwind her. Usually there is nothing wrong with that.
The one issue would be if you live in a suite with only one shower – you have to respect your roommates schedule. Tying up the shower for a long time could be an issue then.
@greatstudentoc200 – You’ve started three Oberlin threads this month – on showering too long, on learning to drive, and on the availability of mental health resources on campus.
You’re anxious. That’s OK. A lot of kids are anxious as they approach leaving home and going to college. Oberlin knew what they were doing when they accepted you. You’ll fit in.
That said, if you have any emotional or psychiatric condition that might benefit from some sort of accommodation at Oberlin, I’m sure that the school would be happy to help you. You can find the appropriate people to contact on the Oberlin website. Similarly, if you’ve benefited from counseling or treatment for something like depression, chronic anxiety, OCD, etc. it might be a good idea to set up some sort of support system at Oberlin before or soon after arrival. You should do just fine at Oberlin, but you might as well stack the deck in your favor.
Some students have a thing about wasting water. I had a room mate who wouldn’t flush the toilet after every use. Maybe use the saunas at the phys ed center to relax?
