I think I can get into Harvard.Shoot me down to earth...

I am studying in the nineth in an obscure suburban school in India aaaand I want to go to Harvard. (Hahaha...laughter all around) No, I am not joking.I looked through a SAT I paper yesterday and seriously, it's eighth grade stuff.( Why is SAT scores such a big deal?) I was wondering If I stand any chance of getting into Harvard if I transfer to a more reputed Indian school in eleventh or should I just try a private US school(gonna need financial aid)? (We don't have many EC oppurtunities in Indian middle tier schools and the top ones don't offer financial aid plus I can't prepare for SAT II in the Indian curriculum ) I want to give both AP and IB but I don't know any boarding school that offers both.Any sugggestions?
PS- I know this isn't strictly 'college' confidential but please help.

You are in class 9 and are already worrying about college? Relax, and enjoy being in class 9. Try do stuff a normal teenager would do- get a girlfriend/boyfriend, experiment with alcohol and smokes (this India for chrissake!! We dont have any enforsable law, make the most of it), throw condoms at your teacher from the roof, watch the hangover with your parents, defecate public property, put the colour of your bra as a facebook status update …in short, do really crazy stupid stuff!!

Once you have done all the crazy things, then write an amazing essay about them and go to harvard!!!

Does anybody have any more crazy stuff to add to the above list?

The only reason I’m worrying about college is because i’ve nothing else to do. I attend an all-girls missionary school, i’m not allowed outside my school campus or my house without one parent or two bodygaurds ( not real ‘bodygaurds’) and I’m only allowed on the net under parental supervision. Now can you guess why I’m considering US boarding schools?

all-girls missionary school? experiment with lesbianism, i’ve heard that its quite satisfying!

I’m a misanthropist. It’s better if I experiment with murder.

Oh and put that in my Harvard essay?

Maybe not. Harvard prefers lesbians to murders. But, that was a good reply!

About your list of ‘normal’ things to do- how long have you actually lived in India?

Or have I never ‘lived’ in India?

I have been living in India my whole life! Kolkata to be more specific. Where do you hail from?

Gotta go.Father’s home.

As much as you think have, you need to grow up, child. How’s that for shooting down?

ROFL. Good luck!

How about this?

Ahhhh…you brightened up my day…

Getting into Harvard is A LOT LOT more than just the SAT.

If you don’t have any ECs, don’t even bother. Top US school want people who’re good in everything, not just mugging up textbooks and 2400 SAT scores.

^^^
Exactly and you need to do lots of extra curriculars. And SATs are not that easy as it seems…things can go wrong at anytime. Enjoy your life. DO it. Do lots of experiments…not just mug up questions and answers. Form new Ideas, innovation. Get curious…and surely you’ll get into Harvard.
All the best.
Big Cheese’s comments were great nevertheless. :)

dude, u say sats are easy, look at ur own questions for god sake, they are grammatically all over the place.

to strictly answer ur question. to my knowledge there are 2-3 schools in US that give find aid to internationals. Phillip Exeter, Phillips Academy. Now, i would strongly advise not to even waste time to do tht. You think coming from india which has a highly competitive pool is tough? at those 2 academies there are 3 kinds of kids.
a) Geniuses-2400+ i,e miles above average
b) Athletes, Musicians, Actors,- these will be in NFL,NBA,Olympics, etc or will play for London Symphony, wrk in hollywood or win oscars, u gotta be tht good.
c) the majority= Upper Middle Class to Rich kids with legacies and all the support they need from parents, counselors etc, they have an army of resources.

So thts ur pool. potentially, HYPMS could fill their roster by only hiring from NEW ENGLAND boarding schools even if they consider the applicants who turned it in on say monday only.LOl … SO thts the pool you could be in, much better you stay where you are, work your Butt off, be committed, keep your goal of going to harvard but dont be surprised if you wont make it.!

sorry

you have to be an absolute genius or extremely eccentric or amazing at a sport to get into Harvard. (:

Do any of you responders personally know someone who got into Harvard?
