I think I'm doing way too much, what should I do?

I’m a sophomore and super involved on campus. It’s only the second week of school and I’m feeling VERY overwhelmed. I think I got way too involved.

My commitments are:

  • 5 classes M-F and one 3 hour science lab. My science class is the most difficult and requires one full chapter of reading and notes before each class on Tuesday and Thursday
  • Executive board for two different clubs (each have weekly hour meetings and then normally one event or so a week) -the honors program
  • A part time retail job on the weekends
  • Therapy appointment (1 hour) once a week
  • Hang out with friends and boyfriend (boyfriend goes to nearby school 30 minutes away so some minimal travel is necessary)
  • Go to the gym 2-3x a week

I’ve found myself super stressed out and pressed for time, I have way more reading/homework to do this year but very little time to do it (at least in a calm manner). All of these things are so important to me so I don’t want to give anything up but I don’t even know how I’m going to manage my time.

My schedule for next week is like:
Monday: classes 11-3, one exam, meeting 6-7, meeting 7-8
Tuesday: classes 11-4, 2 quizzes, meeting 6-7
Wednesday- class 11-12:15 and then lab 3-6
Thursday: classes 11-4, quiz
Friday: class 1-2:15, meeting 3-4, therapy 4-5
Saturday: work 10-2
Sunday: work 3-7

So with all of that where do I fit in the gym, my friends, homework, my boyfriend, and some overall downtime? My priories are my classes (homework), my boyfriend+friends, downtime, and the gym.

But I enjoy everything I do and don’t want to let anyone down or myself down by stepping down from anything. On top of everything I’ve been struggling pretty badly with my anxiety disorder.

What should I do?

Are you seeing a counselor at school? That has been critical for my daughter, who has anxiety. She goes to the campus counseling center once a week.

@MaineLonghorn I was referred off campus so I could see someone weekly instead of bi-weekly (which is what our counseling center does)

Just a thought. Is the schedule creating the anxiety?

I would go in this order:
I would drop at least on executive position on the one club. That will give you much less commitment.

I would drop the Honnors program, assuming it’s adding extra work. Will it really matter after you graduate?

I would drop the part time job, if you can afford to.

Good luck.

I’d drop one of the EC executive positions for sure.

Consider going to the gym with your boyfriend.

Life is about choices. Can’t do everything.

If he is at another college, that may not be an option.
