Yup! I actually signed up for communication studies 1 during session A (it’s online) and then two English classes for session C when I’ll be living on campus.

What about you?? :)

Yup! I actually signed up for communication studies 1 during session A (it’s online) and then two English classes for session C when I’ll be living on campus.

What about you?? :)

Hmm I am looking at classes too right now but I haven’t decided yet if I should. I need to take two of anthro’s preparatory courses so I can declare myself as an anthro major. I think I will probably be doing the same like you… taking the two during the last session. But what comm class is online? Sounds interesting…

and you’ve decided that you will be living on campus??

Yeah, getting pre-reqs out of the way is a good idea. :)

I need 2 more Communication Studies lower division courses which my CC did not offer, (Communication Studies 1 & 10) so I’m taking Communication Studies 1 online.

When I e-mailed Christy Bliss, whom I believe is head of the communications department, she advised me not to take more than 4 Communication Studies courses before attempting to add on the major next Summer. So I’m going to take one that overlaps with English later on in the year and probably 2 more communication studies courses. For the two majors, there’s just so many units that I really need to do summer school right away.

Yeah, I’ve already decided to live on campus for sure because I’m about 3 hours away.

I really hope I can get adequate financial aid…

You could always try and take the two anthro prereqs through a community college to save $$$. However, I’ve noticed how hard it is to get into classes right now as most I’ve looked at are full.

Are you going to live on campus?

Yeah, I emailed Christy Bliss too in regards to admission into the CS program. She said we need to have an A-average UCLA GPA and we will a chance of getting into the program, but it is not a for-sure thing. I am definitely going to look into classes that overlap with my anthro major and the comm major. Hopefully, there are some. I am going to do one anthro class during the summer because its one of the prep courses and maybe even an upper to see how it is.

Oh man, I live 2.5 hours away. Where do you live? I live in Pasadena. I’m 22 and I don’t want to share a room like in my freshman year. I need some personal space. You would save more if you lived off-campus… even like only a mile away.

Can I really take my prep courses at a CC? I am at the capacity already (have 88 units) and I really don’t want to get rescinded on a sad technicality. Hmm… wonder if we can crash courses at ucla. :P

Oh, I think you’re talking about the linguistics course. I took it at CC and it was really fun.

I don’t want to do off campus housing because I don’t want it to affect my financial aid, so that’s my reasoning for not choosing the university apartments.

As for taking classes at a CC, I’m still taking two more at my CC this Summer. I really don’t think you can get rescinded for it. Also, as for the unit cap, you wont be able to transfer all of your units, but the pre-req will be fulfilled nonetheless. For example, I’ll be above my unit cap but I’ll still have intro to sociology fulfilled as a pre-req.

I’m not too worried about housing situations because it’s only for 6 weeks. :)

What linguistic course are you referring to? I think I will do the physical anthropology course and the human evolution course for this summer. I realize that I can double dip for anthro and my film minor YAY!

Choosing to live off-housing has no effect to your financial aid. IN FACT, I believe the housing money goes to you directly once the quarter starts. It is distribute back to you like a refund check. I listed my housing as off-campus when I applied.

Are you sure? I can take more classes at my CC and it will not affect my admissions. Hmm think I will double-check this with my UCLA transfer advisor tomorrow.

I think it does affect your financial aid… Rheel3 posted something on the other thread about how at the financial aid office they where going to giver her less for doing off campus if she chose to do so. It’s cheaper so they have to balance it out with your award.

Yeah, there should be no problem with doing CC classes.

The linguistic course that is under the prep work for communications.
What LD or prep classes have you done for the communication studies major?

Sorry… been busy working and prepping for my europe trip.

Anyways, that is weird because my grants/scholarships totals $18k and that is the same at UCSD. How much does ucla oncampus get?

Ahh I am scared to do more at my cc cause i am at like 88 units and they have already said 86 units is the most units they are willing to transfer.

Umm i have the stats course, speech 1, socio 1, psych 1, and pol sci 1. So I need the ling course and the two comm courses. bahhhh…
