My school placed me in an Algebra 1 course that was completed over the course of two years(9th grade, 10th grade), I got a B+ both years. I know that this still fulfills one year of CSU a-g math requirements, but will it fulfill one year of UC requirements?
Also, I know that this is considered behind in accordance to modern math standards, but I have taken other courses to make up for what I lacked.
Thanks!
Note: being placed in this course wasn’t my decision, I go to a charter school so it’s determined by a placement test.
Yes, you have fulfilled the requirement for Algebra 1. You have a good grade in the class and have completed the course. No worries. Common Core standards has raised the bar significantly for basic college math requirements and many of the student affected by those are only just beginning to graduate. Many in subsequent years were able to be in accelerated math thereby missing CC. I hope admissions offices realize what the students over the next few years have faced with math. This group was thrown into CC math mid-career. Younger students will have had the earlier training in the curriculum setting them up for the high school program. Older students were able to slide around it through the transition into Common Core math. Good for you for sticking with it.
