I’m trying to figure out if I need one more mathematics class or if I have fulfilled the math requirement for the A-G requirements. I’m a senior in high school however I also take courses at my local community college.
Here’s what I’ve taken:
-Beginning Algebra 1 (community college)
-Beginning Algebra 2 (community college)
-Intermediate Algebra (community college)
-College Algebra (community college)
-1 semester of geometry (through BYU independent study)
Do I need another semester of geometry? Or have I taken enough math?
Please help,
thanks.
The beginning algebra courses do not typically count. You need to check with your CC.
They recommend 4 years of math. http://ucop.edu/agguide/a-g-requirements/c-mathematics/
They expect full year coursework in math.
Did you complete the visual/performing arts requirement?
Yes I did complete the visual/preforming arts requirement, I’m in state so my transcript has all of the A-G courses but math is just where it gets confusing.
Here’s another webpage http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/freshman/minimum-requirements/subject-requirement/index.html#math
Looks like your CC Intermediate Algebra satisfies 2 years.
Your BYU class looks like high school level, for which you need a full year of Geometry.
Thank you very much, I’ll take the second semester of geometry, hopefully having it completed before the end of the semester.
You need two semesters of high school geometry to fulfill the UC / CSU math requirement. If the one semester of geometry you completed with a C or higher grade was the second semester, it can validate the missing first semester.

CSU allows trigonometry or precalculus to validate all lower level math courses, including geometry (UC allows this method of validation of lower level math courses except geometry).
