Maybe some current students/alumni turned down better/more prestigious schools in order to attend McGill. Perhaps some students turned down, say, Cornell, Northwestern or Berkeley (perhaps because these particular schools cost too much, especially for Arts students, but there are schools others might turn down for reasons other than money, poor party scene for example)

Then again, I'm not a current Redman but McGill is my first choice for grad school.

My sister had to turn down U of Michigan and Columbia because we would pay international fees and it was too expensive. She gets McGill for free.

D turned down U of Chicago, UCBerkeley, UCLA, BU and a few others (all with scholarships) for McGill. She couldn’t be happier than where she is - so therefor we’re happy! McGill was always her first choice.

I am from the US. I turned down Tulane, Maryland, UConn and UVM (both with scholarships and honors), and a couple of other places. Not terribly impressive for many on here, but I have friends here who turned down Dartmouth, NYU, Swarthmore, Cornell, University of Michigan, and other really prestigious universities. I don’t think any of them are regretting it at the moment!
