My goal is to get into a top 25 ranked school. I am a freshman in high school and am currently enrolled in Geometry, Algebra 2, Biology, Western Humanities, Spanish 2 and English 1. By junior year I will be taking mostly AP classes including Calculus BC and AP Chemistry and Possibly physics. My current GPA is around 3.72 unweighted. I am also on the basketball team, cross country team and outdoor track team. Any advice? What are my chances.

What if you work hard and choose your classes with acceptance to UC Berkeley as your goal, but the year you apply Berkeley drops to #26 in the rankings?

You sound like you are off to a great start, but try to focus less on the "rankings" and more on what your interests are and the many schools that would be great for you - possibly including UC Berkeley (whether it is ranked #21 or #26, it will still be a great school.)

I agree with the above. Try to choose your schools based on the school, not the ranking. To get into Cal, you will need to meet the average admitted student UC GPA of slightly over 4.1, along with SAT scores that average close to 2000. You can go on the UC site and see exactly who they admitted last year, how many AP classes they took, what their GPA's were, and how well they did on the SAT's. There is a ton of information available there. Basically, take hard classes and get as many A's as possible. Also, be one of the lucky ones who gets in while an equally qualified applicant gets denied. It's a numbers game when they receive 50,000 applications a year! Good luck.

be sure to structure your schedule so that you take all of the required classes for the UC's
you need to fill all of their "A-G" class requirements. my high school didn't require a visual/performing art for graduation and i never took a class like that (my schedule was mostly academics, some tech classes, and the required Phys Ed and Health; no arts). i'm pretty sure my schedule makes me ineligible for application to UCB (a place i was really considering) :-(

jackbauer24 gives good advice. You MUST take visual/performing art whether in state or OOS for the UCs. Don't neglect this requirement.

Sorry, but does anyone know how to post questions for people to answer? It would be much apprecieated as I am new here

"Sorry, but does anyone know how to post questions for people to answer?"
it seems like you just did post a question for people to answer ;)

To excellent10: Any question is a valid question. Just copy a format of a highly viewed thread if you need help.

To the OP: At least you know what you want, and that's admirable. But please look into any college before considering it. I just say this because my friend went to UC Berkeley School of Engineering and dropped out in his first year because he didn't like the atmosphere.

You are on a great track. Your GPA, which doesn't matter in freshman year, is still good, and you are trying markedly in your Extracurriculars and sports. Now join some clubs and try to make a difference in your school and community.
