Oh.I got it. But is there any way that my sister responsible about my son and is there any way that I can pay instate tuition ?

The WUE schools have an exchange agreement, however those are the California state schools, not the. University of California schools.

Your sons state of residence will be the state where his parents live.

You can try to have your son adopted by your sister so you can pay instate but I’m not completely sure if it will work.

^ plus, that’s a very long-term solution for a temporary problem.

Bouncer, I can just imagine the expression on the faces of the judge and adoption social workers when she’d try to explain why she was giving up custody of her son!

UW is a great school. Not just good, but great.

OP has previous posts which appear to be by different people (the mother and the son).

lol…well then, the student might get residency after all if he can be his own mother.

California is very careful about awarding instate tuition. You can’t do something like this at the last minute. See if Cal Poly Pomona is part of WUE for tuition reduction. Otherwise UW is a great option.

I think I’ve read some other posts by the OP. I get the impression this is all new to her and she’s not trying to skirt the rules so much as trying to understand them. The way she writes reminds me of a close friend whose 1st language isn’t English.

OP, your child can only get in state tuition in the state where you live. Did he get enough aid at the Univ. of Washington to make it affordable to you? Would he be happy going there?

No, you cannot pay instate tuition if you, the parent, has not been a resident here and paying our excessive California taxes. The California colleges are out of money.

They know some of the tricks or things that people try to do to get out of paying out-of-state fees including having a relative suddenly become the primary caretaker.

Assuming the kid is 18, and a legal adult, it is highly unlikely that any judge will award “custody” to the aunt.

no… and also unethical.

there’s 2 possibilities. One is to pay oos Tuition for the californian Univ and other is going to Univ of washington.
and if one of his parents moves to california and pay taxes there for one year. then they receive in state tuition ?

The family needs to move to California and reside there for a full year BEFORE this studnt begins college. The family needs to demonstrate that their domicile is in California, and they have moved there as their residence.

What is the matter with Iniversity of Washington? It’s a great school!
