dude, I party 4 nights a week in college and I go to a top 10 school and I'm not majoring in something "easy" either.

Major in whatever you want. If you want to party on weekdays, just do it. Basing your major around that aspect is just silly.

yeah, unless you're a varsity athlete (in which case you can only party on weekends) you can party every night and still get good grades. You just need to spend a lot of time in the library during the day.

You're not in grad school.

Also, I would recommend staying away from heroin, meth.... even coke...those drugs can really screw you up. Doing a lot of LSD can be bad too...

Also, don't smoke weed during the day.

disagree a little about coke, depends on the person. won't say it's good for you, but it's not on the same level as meth or heroin(even though adderall is amphetamine salts and oxycodone is pretty much synthesized heroin optimized for oral consumption, so i'm kinda a hypocrite...)

but then again i also smoke during the day

There's no reason why you can't party and do well in classes. I find that I can still get a 3.8 or above with 18 credits and go out all the time. Adding a job to the mix seriously kills party time, though. Having work at 5:00 in the AM stops me from going out at all. I chose to do this, though because I want to stay out of trouble and concentrate on getting into grad school.

And yeah, definitely stay away from drugs. Except for Addies and caffeine.

^Edit: I would say coke can help you with being active for a short amount of time. But getting addicted will ruin your grades, your life, your bank account, your nose.

I'm at an Ivy and got above a 3.7 GPA while shifting between premed and econ this past year. I had some weeks where I partied 5+ nights. I had others where I didn't go out at all. It really depends on what you do in the day and what you have going on in your classes. All of my midterms were bunched together, so I found that some weeks I had almost nothing to do and others I was studying a lot.

to nyu: i agree that getting addicted to coke will mess up a lot of things, that's why it's up to the person to decide if it's worth that risk for them.

You could drive over to MSU?

Michigan is really not a party school at all, compared to most colleges. Honestly, you'll probably have to search for people who want to party on different nights of the week. Do you know anyone who's going to Michigan you could party with?

This is going to sound awful, but...do you have any idea what you want to do after college? That might give people decide things like what you should major in.

Fashion merchandising

There isn't anything like Fashion merchandising at Michigan...but that could be your excuse to want to go to MSU?

Even kids at the most elite schools don't study 7 days a week. There is no reason you can't take off from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning and relax. Studying 24/7 is unhealthy and excessive. Balance is what college is about--not living like some monk.

I think the problem is you'll probably have to find a different person to go out with every day of the week, though...

I should try that taking off Friday afternoon till Sunday morning thing some time.

According to the NSSE survey at UM, 70% of UM undergrads study an average of 20 hours or less per week. 83% study less than 25 hours per week. If you study 5 hours a day for five days a week you will be in the top 17% os students at UM as far as time spent goes. That leaves PLENTY of time for other things.

Ok I want to go to college for mech. engineering, but I also want to be able to party, I'm just wondering how much partying I can get out of doing a more difficult major

bobbafatty, if you are anywhere smart it is easy. it also really depends on how your schedule is.

Yeah I would consider myself smarter than most! That's why I want to do M.E. but I also want a well rounded college experience too, which includes possibly living in a frat, going to parties, joining clubs, the whole shebang

Interesting. I'm leaning toward the General Studies major... or Spanish. we'll see.
