I want to become a sports doctor

Hi, I want to become a sports doctor but do not know what college major to choose. Can someone advise me in what major would prepare me for the field or should I go along with the medical advisory program? Also what type of courses will I be taking in college because on the colleges I'm applying to they only list the major not the actual classes along with the major? Thanks!

No you don’t because sports medicine is a tiny narrow field that hires almost no one.

Exercise science or physiology would be a good major. Biology is a common major for premed students.

To become a sports doctor, you would need to complete college and go to medical school. After medical school, you might do a residency in a specialty like orthopedics. To get admitted to medical school, you would need to complete the pre-medical requirements (usually, 2 semesters each of general and organic chemistry, general biology, general physics, and calculus). As long as you complete these requirements, you can major in whatever field you like, though usually pre-med students major in a bioscience field or chemistry. As milkweed mentioned, exercise science (or, kinesiology) might be an appropriate pre-med major for someone interested in sports medicine. As one example of the types of courses involved in that major, look at this link to the majors in the Health, Physical Education & Recreation School (HPER) School at Indiana U. [Degrees, Majors, and Certificates: School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation: Indiana University](http://www.hper.indiana.edu/degrees/)
For some students who don’t want to go the whole medical school route, they major in a field like athletic training, or they complete an undergrad degree and then apply to a graduate program in physical therapy.
