I've been going to community college for 2 years as history major and i was accepted to Sacramento State. The problem is that I have been thinking long and hard and now I want to change my major to computer science and its been stressing me out. Its not that I don't enjoy history its just that I originally wanted to get into game design but so many of my friends told me how hard it was, and I did research, to get a job in game design that I told myself that if I couldn't get I might as well not try so I went to history. I have been seriously thinking about my future and I don't see a job in history other by going to law school. I want to go to computer science because this way there is could be a chance to get into the gaming industry and if I cant I fall back on with a degree in computer science.

The question is should I change my major or is it to late? If I do should I still go to Sac State and do everything over there or stay at community college and start over in hopes of some place better than sac state. The problem with staying at community college is that I will rack up a lot units that could effect my financial aid. I do understand that if change my major it means i will spend an extra year or two in college and I'm willing to do it for a future.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

There are a lot of courses you need to take for CSU Sacramento CS:
[ASSIST Report: SCC 12-13 CSUS Articulation Agreement by Major](http://web1.assist.org/web-assist/report.do?agreement=aa&reportPath=REPORT_2&reportScript=Rep2.pl&event=19&dir=2&sia=SCC&ria=CSUS&ia=CSUS&oia=SCC&aay=12-13&ay=12-13&dora=CSC)

You may want to check whether it would be less expensive to take them at your CC versus at CSU Sacramento. Also, check to see whether CSU Sacramento has time or unit limits that you can attend.

I think it will be more expensive if I stay at community college because financial aid runs out at 120 units and I am at 95

It’s going to be cheaper if you take the courses at your local CC. Think of it this way, you’re essentially going in as a freshman/sophomore because you’re changing your major to something completely different, especially CS since it requires extensive lower div prep (Math up to Lin.Alg./Differentials, Physics series, etc). If you stick with the CC you can still have your course fees waved with the BOG waiver. Also, the uni might not let you change it to CS since you’ll be a uber senior by the time you can graduate. Talk with your counselor first, they’ve helped a lot of people that have gone through the same thing as you did as well (especially me).

I went from an animal health science (pre-vet) major to EE and I spent way too long taking all of the necessary prereqs.

Edit: I have 105 semester units right now so I’ve been going on without financial aid for a while now and the only thing I pay for is the gas to get to the school and the miscellaneous student fees (ASB, health, etc.).

I’m surprised that Sac. state requires you to take engineering materials & circuit analysis for a CS degree. Interesting…

Alright Im going to stay at community college then, thank you guys you guys so much for your advice been a big help. I’m going to start working harder than I have ever before in school now!
