I want to go into film L00K!

This may be an unusual CC story.

I am in my junior year, I have good scores, 4.0 Weighted, 3.8 Unweighted. 2100 SAT, an ok amount of EC's nothing special.

Recently, I changed my mind about what I want to major in college. For the past 2 years I have wanted to go into pre med. I have now changed my mind, and realize that just does not interest me. I actually want to major in film, since I am obssessed with movies and love everything about them. I don't know anything about film, I have never been in a school play, and have no previous training. All I know is that I want to spend my life in film.

My GC says that I have great stats, and will most likely get into UCLA (that is my main goal) if i keep up the good grades in senior year.

What are some good schools for a Film Major? Is UCLA a good school for film. Can you please give me some good schools that are known for theire film department? Thanks.

P.S. I prefer a school in California, but you may also give me out of state schools.

Some good film schools are UCLA, USC, NYU (these are probably the top), Emerson, Emory, Northwestern. Here's a website that has some good film schools, http://www.imdb.com/filmschools. hope that helps. (I also want to go into film!)

talk to a user called safiamilke (sp?), from what I have observed, he/she is also into film and is going to a top film school next year. And no, I'm not a stalker. :)

The only problem with UCLA's highly competitive film program is that it is a highly competitive program is that you can't enter it till your junior year( in which you reapply to the school of radio/tv/and film). It is risky, because you could get locked out of the program (hence the reason I'm waiting til grad school).
You also might want to look at Boston U. Boston is a documentary film town (this coming from a producer at WGBH/ Nova).

Also Florida State (very, very strong program but hard to get into), Ithaca, North Carolina School for the Arts, University of Texas.

BTW, you can enter USC's film program, writing, production, or critical studies, as a first year student. That, plus its size, meaning more slots are available, make it more attractive than UCLA's.
