*also, I am applying for PPSP and my decision to go to Case really hinges on whether I'm acceted to that.

What do you think? I probably forgot some stuff but this is off the top of my head.

p.s. how important is the writing score for Case?

p.p.s.
I've visited campus and I've e-mailed and talked to them over the phone and told them Case is my top choice (which is basically true)

I think that It is very likely you can get the upper scholarships (trustee or president) , but that is just my opinion. BTW why do you want to go to Case ( since your test scores and ECs are Way above the average here??)??

If you read the *, the main appeal is the PPSP program, where I can get a reserved spot in their med school. Having a guaranteed spot in a top 20 med school without taking the MCAT and paying very little for my first four years undergrad sounds pretty good to me.

Yea, you're only vice president of the math club, and not the president, so I dunno how that will look. Maybe you should have tried harder to become president, and focus a lot more on math. You're also probably going to face some stiff competition from the president of the math club for this.

bump... anyone else (preferably less ridiculous answer)
is it possible to get full tuition first of all? I know the president's scholarship is only worth about 25k. So can I combine multiple scholarships?

You will get the trustee's scholarship based on your test scores alone. However, it is nowhere near a full ride. If you have financial need, and are filing FAFSA, chances are you will get more $$, but not all "free" money, but loans, work study, etc. There are a couple of full tuition awards, but check out the requirements on the scholarship page of the website.
Financial Aid - Scholarships

Good luck!

Case doesn't really give out a lot of full rides, I've never met anyone here who has one.

The Mom thanks for the link. Yeah I totally missed the academic Awards Program when I read through their website a while ago. They give a total of 11 full rides, which euiHyunLee you're right is defnitely not very many. Yikes! However, seeing that Case Western is not that totally competitive, do you think I can get one?

I know three students at Case that are on full merit scholarships. The general feeling I get is that Case uses them to attract high-achieving students that would probably not otherwise enroll. Aside from strong test scores and academic performance (which is typical for most Case students), I can't think of anything else that is common between them. It is almost impossible to guess what got them the money.

Merit money from Case is best viewed as a gift - those who view it as that are usually happy with their package...those who have expectations of how much they should get are typically disappointed.

I'm also not sure if PPSP affects merit aid. My gut feeling is that PPSP students would probably not be considered for full tuition scholarships because they are already more likely to enroll (because they are attracted by the program).

Ctheflute that is an interesting point you have there about PPSP affecting merit money. I'm hoping it won't, but it is a good point, and no point in asking the Case people cuz they'll never admit it.
that's also a good outlook you discussed about viewing it as a gift, but honestly I can never do that, so I'm just hoping not to get disappointed. Honestly, if I get anything less than trustees I'll be really disappointed, but that's just more proof that I'm a miserable person.

maybe you expect too much....??

JohnC613, as far as I know, the scholarships cover tuition only, not room and board. Also AFAIK, they are fixed; as tuition increases, the merit award remains fixed at the original value.

Going "for free" would mean a great need of financial aid to cover the last $10,000 or so in room, board, and fees. If you have that much need, you would "go for free" at any of the schools which guarantee fully meeting financial need (although some schools would require you to take on debt or work study to achieve this).

Based on the postings here over the recent years, students admitted to Case PPSP-medical have not received the most merit money.

I should probly explain my situation better:
I most likely will get 0 need-based aid
that's why I'm going for merit scholarships
ok, yeah, full tuition. I'm ok with paying just r&b
so it is true that Case intentionally won't give PPSP as much merit aid, huh? That sucks.

No, I have absolutely no idea if there is a policy one way or the other. It just seems from the limited sample size of those who posted here, that those admitted to PPSP-medical did not receive full tuition scholarships.

well that is a tell-tale sign, since PPSP is highly competitive and only the best applicants get in, so you would think they should also deserve full tuition.

If you're happy with only paying R & B that's ok then...you'll probably get a full or at least 3/4 tuition scholarship.

There are other schools that offer similar programs, where you are pre-admitted to med school. OSU for one, where I think they offer a full ride to NMFs. U of Cinti. may have a similar program, and their med school is GREAT.

But if you think you would be happier at a smaller, more selective school such as Case, I'd take their money. ;)
