Im a junior in high school now, and I want more than anything to go to Stanford. I was wondering what you think my chances are of getting in. So I haven't taken the SAT but I will next month. My GPA is 3.3 but I have time to raise it. But I believe I have a hook. When I was 14 I had the idea for a new product (the product is a custom, reflective, chevron panel for the back of fire trucks and work utility vehicles) that was related to my dads business. So I did research on it and pretty much invented it and I have made over 20,000 dollars already from this product. Also I have a passion for helping people. My family does a church service for the homeless every Sunday and we feed them. I love to help people and it just makes me so happy to do it. I have also been playing guitar at this retirement home twice a month, every month, since I was 6 ( Im 16 now). The same goes for this alcohol and drug rehabilitation center, where i have been performing since I was 6. I'm also in NSHS (national science honors society) , Latin Club, and FBLA (future business leaders of America). I think my big hook is my business experience. I also do a lot with stocks and have a working knowledge of that. I am listening to online classes on Economics and other classes. Also my father had his MBA and we talk a lot about business.

So what is your opinion on my chances of getting into Stanford. Please leave me feedback and tell me what I can do more to better raise my chances of getting accepted.

You must increase your gpa. Since you have time to prepare for the sat, aim for 2300+ in the sat which you take afterwards. Your EC’s are already good but try to join in some clubs. Stanford is always a reach but you can get in if you are determined for it.
Good luck for the future!

Well, determination isn’t quite enough to get into Stanford, the odds are against everybody! Do you have other, more reasonable schools on your list? Stanford just isn’t realistic until you take the SAT/ACT and see how you do. It would be great if you could finish junior year and first semester senior year taking rigorous courses and getting straight As. But what is most important is to choose some match schools that you could also fall in love with. Good Luck!

With your GPA, Bryson, I think the odds for Stanford are not in your favor. Don’t worry, though, there’s plenty of other fantastic colleges out there.

With your GPA, odds are very low - most students who get in have similar great EC’s but have a 3.8 GPA…
Keep it as your super reach though because you never know, and now think of other schools similar to Stanford.
Cal POly SLO is an obvious possibility to look into.
What do you like about Stanford?

I would agree with the others on the status of Stanford as a SUPER reach. However, it’s my strongly held opinion that Stanford, while a prestigious Ivy, is also the most unpredictable. You can use this to your advantage by getting a high SAT (2300+) and writing killer supplement essays. Also, if there was a reason your grades dropped, be sure to let them know (but it has to be a legitimate reason, not procrastination or laziness).

^I agree with makennacompton in that Stanford sure loves its athletes, but you cant just decide to “become a recruited athlete” in one year. Recruits are the best of the best and have been practicing their respective sports for a multitude of years. So, yeah. That’s probably not the most logical option.

EDIT: Unless you mean that the product you released was really recently released, like within a month ago, and it’s projected to gross a lot, lot more.

Since you love to help people, look into the Bonner Scholar Scholarship.
The kind of commitment you displayed by playing guitar once a week, every week, since you were 6 years old, is exactly what they’re looking for.
Look and see if you can enroll in a Bonner Americorps.
You could also participate in the Bonner Scholars or Bonner Leaders programs.
Check out the schools that participate:

Right now, you need to find other schools you like a lot and where you have a shot.

OP…you have to understand Stanford looks for the BEST/TOP scholar-athletes, scholar-musicians, scholar-humanitarians, scholar-computer whizzes, scholar-artists, scholar-writers, scholar-actors, scholar-entrepreneurs, etc…

…they look for the best academic achievers who happen to be the best in their extracurricular activities (choose from above) as well…who have what they call INTELLECTUAL VITALITY…

You have some great EC’s but right now your gpa is way too low for Stanford. The valedictorian of my graduating class had a mother who also went there and he didn’t get in.

Omg…You know what!? I believe in you. Forget about all that GPA crap._.
You like invented a product?! that’s like ****ting on that GPA crap! THAT is amazing. And the stuff you’ve done , I am impressed.
I’ve seen on ■■■■■■■■■■ that Stanford has accepted someone with a 2.0 as well as 3.something. So give it a try.
I think you have a medium chance and if not, I’m sure any college will be lucky to have you :)
