I'm a sophomore and I am taking a rhetoric class (a supplementary class for AP English Language). I did a synthesis essay and I receive a 6 out of 9. Is there any way for me to improve on the synthesis essay so that I could receive a higher score (I'm aiming for at least an 8). On the scoring guidelines, my teacher highlighted the following:

-7: Essays earning a score 7 fit the description of essays that are scroed a 6 but are distinguished by more complete or more purposeful argumentation and synthesis of cited sources.

-6: The writer's argument is generally convicning. the argument is less cogent than the arguments of essays earning higher scores. Though the language may contain lapses in diction or syntax, generally the prose is clear.

-5: arguments are somewhat limited, inconsistent, or uneven
