I want to save $ and commute to college, but life at home seems to get tougher everyday.

I am a high school student who dreams of going to BU.
I live outside of Boston, was accepted to BU as a guaranteed transfer, but its a ton and I dont want to leave college with over 100 grand in debt. I would be under 100 grand if I went three years, and was an RA junior senior year.
I was accepted to umass boston as a safety and would only pay like two grand a year.
My parents are okay with me staying home and commuting, but life at home is getting tougher. My siblings are driving me crazy (all younger than me). My mom always criticizes tiny things I do. My dad and I have never gotten along.
If I were commuting, would it matter since I’d be at UMB or Id be working so much? Is the low cost worth it?

Could you get an apartment or something at UMass Boston? That would still be cheaper than BU, right?

^ I concur

IMO low cost is worth it. My older brother commuted, but he spent almost all of his waking hours on campus. It helped his social life and kept his cost down. He’s 25 and just about to buy his first place (not expensive, but not too close to a major city either). He was able to pay his loans in first 2 years.

I forget to mention, he didn’t get along with our parents, but being away most of the time almost brought them closer… it’s weird, but I guess they’re ok with each other in small doses.

Yeah, I was thinking same as first two posters…if it’s only 2 grand, couldn’t you add the cost to live on campus? Still a lot cheaper than most other situations.

It would be like 800 a month to rent an apartment with 3 other girls. I may just end up commuting and get really involved at UMass so Im out of the house a lot. Thanks for the help!
