So in high school I transferred from Texas D.C my senior year. They cut a lot of my credits and my counselor told me I wouldn’t be able to graduate on time. One day near the end of the year, I emailed her how many more credits I needed and she told me I had enough to graduate after all. By that time a lot of deadlines had passed, but theUniversity of Kansas had rolling and was easy to get into. I’m ashamed because everyone there is from Kansas or close by and they always ask me why I came all the way to Kansas (I DON’T want to answer that question for the rest of my life). Also, I don’t like the midwest or Kansas, anyway. Even the airport is not good. I just don’t want to be there anymore and have been trying to transfer, however I’m having problems. I’m basically an idiot and had to settle, because in Highschool my gpa was only a 2.7. Right now at KU my gpa is a 3.1 and my SAT scores are extremely average. Recently, I took the new SAT but was unprepared, and need to take it again (I can’t take it until October, so there goes applying for the spring semester). I wanted to go to a school in either, D.C, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, or Texas. But it seems like I am currently not good enough. Should I wait a year and then transfer, or just one more semester? I just feel shame when I say I go to KU despite it being a solid and good school. The only connection I have to Kansas is that my mom is from there…other than that, I have no business being there. The schools I wanted to apply to: American University, James Madison, George Mason, Maryland, Texas, and other out-of-my-league schools are just too good for me (according to collegefactual.com’s matchup). Any tips? Advice? For the longest time I was under the delusion that I could get into these schools, but the only schools that it seems I will be able to get into are not very good and it’s killing me. It hurts to fuck up so badly and have no options left. Any tips are good tips, I feel really trapped.
also, can I transfer anywhere with my current gpa?
What is your major? Coming from far away is nothing to be ashamed of. I’m from NM and am attending Wichita State University. I doubt than anyone who asks you why you came there is trying to put you down - they are probably just curious.
This year I was undecided, but I’m planning on doing business managment or marketing
You don’t need to take the SAT once you are in college. Regarding Kansas, I live far from there but there is a bar near me where the local KU fans and alums hang out to watch the games. I don’t really understand why it would be embarrassing to go to KU.
So to answer your question, it doesn’t make sense to transfer because you are ashamed to be going to a pretty decent school. Also, focus on getting good grades this fall so you have more choices if you decide to transfer. I doubt whether your SAT scores taken while in college will be considered.
Could you transfer to a community college near your home, and study there for a year? If you finish your associates degree with a good GPA, you may have a lot more options.
Alternately, you could consider transferring to a community college in one of the states that you think you’d like to live in, and finish up your associates degree in a program that guarantees admission to one of the public universities that you like. Even with a 3.0 GPA you would automatically be admitted. Check out the articulation agreements and guaranteed transfer programs for the VA, PA, and MD public universities.
