Yeah, I had that same exact attitude out of high school. I worked so damn hard and thought it was going to waste, but since i took all those AP classes and stuff, I place into high classes and theyre a whole lot easier. Learning is never a waste.

Jeffrey99 how can you get rejected from UCSD if you have a 4.3GPA? What did you get on your SAT's and SATII's? HOw do you think you did in your essays?

Well my UC GPA (basically AVG) was 3.42,I got a 4.3 my 1st semester of senior year.

Freshmen
3.0
3.5
2nd year
3.1
3.1
3rd year
3.6
3.8
Senior
4.3
4.5??? (hopefully I can finish of my HS career with straight A's)

I just didn't give a ***** my first two years unfortunately (I guess out of immaturity).

Wow, that's a drastic increase from freshmen to senior year!! =] I'm sorry that you got rejected though. What were your SAT scores?

Social life is really what you make out of it. I don't think people are missing out on a lot if they go to a cc first and then transfer.

Some UC's do have transfer dorms and you will meet new people everywhere, at your cc as well as at UC's

Enjoying "college life" when you're older and more mature may be a positive thing

CR-570
Math-490
Writing-560

US History-580
Lit-490

I was mostly dissapointed at my history score though....I got an A in US history both semesters and an A in AP Euro and Honors World History....ergh....but again didnt really give a **** or had the time to study for the SAT.

when i applied as a senior my sophmore gpa was a 3.0 and my junior gpa was 4.17 and i had a 33 ACT score and i only ended up getting into ucsb. You gotta work with what ya got.

My D is currently a soph.at UC Merced .When she graduated from high school she applied to six schools. UCD, UCSB, UCLA, UCI, CAL POLY, SDSU. They all rejected her. Needless to say she was crushed. She had a 3.6 G.P.A. , 1840 SAT ,fantastic E.C.'s , we didn't think we needed a plan B. At the time ,we didn't even know UC MERCED even existed they contacted us. I promised her we would look at CSU Northridge, CSUF, as long as she looked at UC MERCED before she made her mind up. They promised her she could transfer after her first 2 yrs. She has not regretted her decision. She's made Chancelor's list consecutively. She's been offered an internship in her Junior year. She thought about transferring but the friends she's made mean so much more to her. She's now considering law school. Moral of the story is no one really knows what life has in store for you!

twilight girl: i was in the same situation last year. i would recommend going to CC and transferring. you'll be so much happier in the long run. cc is WAY cheaper and soooo much easier to transfer to uc's.

if you get 90 quarter units into a year, you can apply to SD this coming fall for fall 2010.

PM me if you have questions!

ucsd is not that hard to get into through transferring. so i wouldn't even worry about it. if you want to go to riverside, do it. get a 3.5 and you're fine.

But don't expect a 3.7-4.0. I think a lot of people think they can get that because they got a 4.3 in HS or a 4.0 in cc. 4 year schools (at least ucs) are drastically different. There's a reason a 3.7 puts you at the top 10% of your class at most ucs.

I think UCR is easier than CC though. For biology majors anyways.

At any rate UCR is offering me a fatty grant....so the price is just too good. For not only a 4 year school but also a University of California

lol its funny that the OP has a stigma about going to a community college, when on this forum most of us have a stigma about UCR :)

haha yeah, I have a stigma about CC, but only because of what I've noticed. My friends having fun at ucr, learning quite a lot, getting good grades and transfering in 1 year. I'm stuck here at home, working harder, harder to get good grades, no one to socialize with and transfering after 2 years. Even if it is more guaranteed to get into a top tier UC, It doesn't seem worth it.

if you plan everything correctly, you could transfer from a community college in one year. How many AP units do you have?

I agree with guitarfrk,I actually asked one of my friends, whose brother graduated last year if he liked CC or not,and she says he doesn't.She says all he does is mope around at home.Keep in mind I remember her brother, and the guy was one of the most popular people in his class...a social butterfly.

haha jeffrey, I can totally relate to this guy. I'm not saying I was popular in HS, but i certainly was active with asb leadership, clubs, sports etc.. Now all I do is get fat at home and study. I wish I was getting fat in college instead. haha

And believe me, I tried to be active at cc, but everything there is incredibly lame. I tried joining an honors society, but they had like 5 members...I also tried to do this cross cultural partners thing where we help a new student adjust to life in america. my partner failed to show up. Meanwhile, my friend is partying it up in ucr. :[

I think the problem I have with a CC is I get the sense (and I've asked around) that they treat you like your still in HS.

Yeah her brother was kind of a jock (but nice, not a jerk), so he would have his swim buddies to hang out with and a ton of girls....but seriously the last time I saw him was like new years eve and he came alone and just didn't seem to be the same guy as before.

hey I wanted to ask does it matter what CC you go to transfer to UCSD?
