I do NOT want a science school, I'd prefer somewhere where social sciences take preference, not sure of my major yet (poli sci? journalism? sociology? they're all possibilities at this point.)
- I would prefer a moderate or liberal school, but I'm open-minded in this regard. As long as a school isn't hugely conservative, I'll be fine.
- I like an urban or surburban setting, but again, I'm flexible.

I think George Washington and America U will meet your requirements. They can be your match and safety.

I'd like to point out that USC is a private university, and thus the whole OOS thing does not play into admissions, just so you know :)

Also, it is hard to get into top public schools out of state, but if you feel like one of those would be a good match (I personally love UVA, and UMichigan Ann Arbor is also a great school) then go ahead and apply. The UCs would most likely be harder to get into OOS, because they are challenging for even California state residents (well, UCLA and UC Berkeley for the most part...).

PassportInHand is correct- USC is a private school, so being a California resident would not help and may even hurt a little bit. Chicago is easier to get into than the Ivies, because fewer people apply. They stress academic interest more than ECs or unusual abilities and achievements. They really want people who like to learn, want to learn, and can learn. That is pretty much the bottom line.

Wash U isn't a 'science school' at all. They are very strong in any number of areas (as I recall, the recruiter who visited our local public high school mentioned that anthropology was the top major-she happened to be one, which is how it came up.)
