I was expelled from my high school in late september.
There is no record of the expulsion, only a change of schools.
My current principal, counselor, teachers, and students at school all think I transferred for some other reason. I don't want to be too specific but it is completely innocuous.
My current counselor really likes me, she thinks I am a great person and recognizes my academic talents.
I was expelled for something incredibly stupid, that was entirely my fault.

Do I check the expulsion box? If I do... how does it hurt my application?

If not, I most likely will not be caught. But what if I am?

If it is not recorded as an expulsion, it is not technically one. Even if the school basically said 'get out' and you did, if it is not recorded it didn't happen. So don't mark the box.

I know a few people who were basically expelled, or close enough, but came to a 'mutual' desicion with the school to leave so that they would not have an expulsion on record.

lol a lot of people are getting worried over stuff to check in their application from that "Fake EC's" thread. Really, I don't think anything will happen if you don't check the expelled box. Plus it's not on records, so don't think anything of it.

honestly it depends on what you did and how your school dealt with it exactly. The worse the crime the worse your going to get screwed if they find out...

But how do you know that your explusion is not on the transcript from your old school which may stil be turned in ( how are you going to account for the time before arriving at your new school?)

btw which school are you applying to ? If its one of the schools i am applying and you get accepted over me, I will have to tell them :D just kidding man !!

jeez, he can tell, it's not like we know him, and it's not like college is going to hunt him down on this message board and find out who he is..and even if they do, not like they have sufficient proof that it is him...

They really dont care that much about expulsions. Really. My friend was one of the infamous computer hackers in our area (he made it front page in the newspapers!) who got expelled, yet made it to Berkeley Engineering. A few blips in your record anit gonna do much damage. As long as you dont have like 10 suspensions and explusions, you shouldnt worry.

If you look at my name here you will know that I am quite an expert on this subject. In fact, Wild Child's fighting expulsion was at the end of 8th grade! It also went down as a "withdrawal" and he finished the 8th grade year off campus. Unfortunately, he didn't stop there and actually did get booted for real in March of soph year from a prep school. It was a totally bogus reason- nothing to do with drugs, cheating or fighting. BUT-it will be on his record and will have to go on the rap sheet attached to his applications.
My advice to you is to carefully review your transcripts from the old school. If there is really NO mention of the expulsion and you aren't getting any recs from the old school that might mention it (EVEN in a good context like "how sorry the teacher was to lose you over something so silly") then I would not mention it. The worst thing is to NOT disclose it and have it come out somewhere else. If it is officially a withdrawal, then I would not call it a suspension. That said, throwing a punch is not going to keep you out of college.
