I was hoping for some opinions.

Well, everyone around me has been telling me I'm going to get into UW most likely, counselors, this NELA center, former admissions directors, etc. Well I'm pretty decided I wanna go there (still waiting for admissions, OF COURSE). So I'm not extremely worried about admissions for myself. I really want a close friend of mine to get in and share a room with me. Their stats go like this: 3.33 gpa, 1350 SAT (yes, NEW SAT), did wrestling, volunteered, extracurriculars up the ying yang. The reason why the SAT score is so low is cuz they're asian and have trouble with writing and english. Me, I'm asian too, but I was born here and got quite a grip on the english language. Anyway I really want them up there with me cuz i've known them forever and want them to go to college with me and ya know, we've been close forever. i'd like an estimate on their chances, cuz really where would you expect is the cut off point where they stop accepting you?

first off, theres no cut off to speak of, except you need to have a gpa of above 2.0 for them to consider you

second off, i think their chances are relatively good. did they take 4 years, math, science, etc? those are pretty important. plus, if your friends took AP courses those should also help as well. i am assuming they took a competitive class load.

the 1350 on the new SAT means they got around 450 on each subject. here are the median ranges for UW (princeton review):

SAT - Verbal Range (25-75%): 530-650
SAT - Math Range (25-75%): 570-670
TPR Projected Range SAT Writing: 570-660

thats probably a sticking point.

hmmm, i don't see how you can say that his chances are "relatively good". they're definitely not good or even close to good. his only saving grace would maybe be absolutely amazing EC's, but his GPA is below average and his SAT is far below.

i'd say definitely less then 50% chance to get in...i wish him luck though.

his chances are definitely average if not good.

if he is in state, the school he goes to (in the seattle metro) area will definitely help a lot as far as getting in.

i have numerous friends who have around a 3.2 and 1500 on the SATs that have already heard back from UW already. historically - this is true. if the applicant's essay is good and his ec's are good, i think he will definitely have a shot.

the only problem i see are the SAT scores.

keep your head up!

let me see... he was in honors math until junior year, took HS Calculus instead of AP. Didn't take honors science or ap sciences. you could say he took it relatively easy, with like two free periods, no science and already took 2 years of spanish. I guess I over exaggerated with the extracurriculars, wrestling is one, and just volunteering at this place for the past 4 years. I didn't actually read his essay for UW, so i can't tell how good his essay is, I'll check it out though. And we're out of state, RIGHT on the border, in Portland, Oregon. I do'nt know i really want him to get in. But we'll see, I'll check up on his essay and activities chart, cuz all i know is GPA of 3.33 without any ap classes and 1350 SATs. I mean I have a slightly higher GPA (3.39) and I have two AP classes, honors science for 2 1/2 years, cuz everyone starting out had to take freshman biology. Plus i'm in Calculus AP, with honors math all 4 years. hrmm... Looks like I should of gotten a higher score on math in the SAT, but seems like a lot of people got around or less that range. I have quite a high SAT score compared to the people i know, so i don't know. Well we'll see if I get in, but i'm not EXTREMELY scared that I won't, and I always got a back up in U of Oregon and Oregon State University (don't really wanna go there). I just wanna go to UW with someone I've known all my life and share a dorm with me, that'd be awesome, where we could just kick it and party and do whatever (and of course, study). Hopefully, I'll be back with more detail on his stuff to see if he has a chance.
