I've been hearing a lot about how this year will have record high number of applicants for UW and I feel I'm sort of borderline. I'm hoping a chance thread will give me some perspective. I am instate asian male btw.

UW GPA: 3.63 with honors bio/chem as a sophomore. AP chem and AP environmental science as a Junior. AP government, AP computer science, and honors precollege writing as a senior. My GPA has been falling since 9th grade from a 3.8 in 9th grade to a 3.4 11th grade partly due to harder classes.

SAT: 1930 (610 writing, 610 math, 710 CR)

EC:
Volunteering at a buddhist temple for the past 2 years (200 hours total).
Took 4 years of weekend chinese school outside of regular school.
3 years of tennis at school and 1 year of swimming.

I think that you have a relatively high( but not certain) chance of being accepted. You have a relatively high SAT ( in the top half of admittances in all categories, and in the top 11 percent two years ago in reading according to Yahoo education.) Your GPA is relatively average, but it appears as if you took high level classes, which should differentiate you from all of the other students with comparable GPAs. Your extracurriculars are slightly better than average, and it would be helpful to try to flesh them out in the activities log. The big difference that will likely make or break your application is your personal statement, as it is what makes you appear different than the thousands of other applicants. Also, remember that even though the huge admittance pool makes it harder to get into than in years past, remember that the UW is unlikely to drop its admittance percentage to much bellow 50 percent, so being slightly above average will be good enough to be accepted. Good luck on your application, and I hope that you succeed wherever you go, be it the UW or another college.
