yea...title speaks for itself. weird. i called dartmouth and the lady was like..yea ur inteviewer probably knows nothing about college admissions/dates. good job dartmouth!

So the moral of the story is that Yeah, the interview is really to give you information, not for them to evaluate you or anything.

No, the Dartmouth interview is evaluative. My interviewer had been doing it for 10 years and he explained everything. The form they use for the write up is called "Form 8" and it's the last thing the admissions committee sees in your folder. It's not a big factor, but can be a "tipper." Collegeboy is right -- his interviewer must have been either really lazy or just not known anything about the process.

This is really weird. I just got contacted for an interview as well...

"I'd like to set up a convenient time for us to chat
about your goals and interests as a prospective
undergraduate, and how you see Dartmouth providing you
with the optimum environment in which to achieve them.
Additionally, you can also use this time to ask any
questions you may have about Dartmouth."

Is this a coincidence or what? I JUST got contacted this morning. Or could this be a sign...

i had my dartmouth interview a while back and i have to say. out of all my interviews (penn, chicago, duke etc...) dartmouth seemed the most formal. I walked in there, two man well dresses and immediately started asking me questions.

So i wouldn't be surprised if they do use it for evaluation purposes.

Of course, Dartmouth won't count it AGAINST you if you don't have an interview. I personally had to turn down my interview request for personal reasons (conflicting schedules) but I got my likely letter two weeks later.

Taking an interview can be a gamble, I suppose. Blow it really badly and you make a bad impression, do really well and it could get in.

Hey, I'd do it. Do well in the interview, and it can't hurt you. IF you got in then you got in, but if you didn't, the admissions committee might pull your application back out with the interview report and reevaluate you. You never know what could happen, but I would never turn down an interview.

Yeah, it might help if you get waitlisted...

You can also learn how to interview better. So it's never a waste of time.

I also found myself in this boat! I received an e-mail about interviewing last Thursday, and I will be interviewing on Saturday. Anyway, like the poster before me stated, it will be good interviewing practice if nothing else.

whatever. the interview can not mean that much. i had an interview on March 11th and my likely letter (which i got the 13th) was dated the 10th.

oh plus my interviewer was crazy. we met at his house and he was dressed in his pajamas and walking around in socks.

Ewwwwww.

10 chars

ahah tats pretty crazy!
