Interview?

I haven't been contacted for a Dartmouth interview yet and I know it is getting close to the end of the time period. Should I contact the admissions office? I know they are optional, but I've heard it is still better to have them. Dartmouth says that they give them out if alumni are available in your area, but I live in a very metropolitain area. There is no "screening" process for people interviewed, right? The admissions people say it's random and people aren't excluded if they are thought to be rejects, but I'm still curious whether this is actually true. I thought my application made me a pretty decent candidate....

Don't worry.
My friend is an excellent candidate and she wasn't offered an interview (and we're in the biggest city out there!). I'm still waiting for mine, which was postponed to sometime in February. The deadline is 2/20.

Same here. My d has not been contacted for an interview, although Brown and Cornell did contact her -- did they ever contact you?

Nope, not yet. Although I did just get a call for a Cornell interview a couple days ago and had it today so there is time.

Hey, I just had my interview today and was wondering how significant it is to a general application.

From what I've heard, it's more of a "you did it" thing rather than a "how well you did it". (If that makes sense...) It won't really hurt you unless you COMPLETELY screwed up (as in you insulted your interviewer).

I think the purpose of the Dartmouth interview is to highlight to a greater degree the good qualities of candidates. My interviewer pretty much seemed like he was asking me what I wanted him to put in a letter of recomendation about me, like asking for my good qualities and such so that he could write a letter of recomendation for me. He also said that he was there to help me in the admission process, and that he was on my side/trying to help me get into Dartmouth, and that's how he was supposed to be for all the candidates, unless they walked into the room and kicked him or something.

I think that almost everyone who does an interview gets a good recomendation, and the main purpose is to get rid of those one or two applicants who actually DO walk into the room and attack the interviewer. So an interview probably doesn't mean that much, and you probably have just as good a shot of getting in without an interview (assuming you were never contacted for one) as you would with a pretty good interview.

The interview came through email.... Now our only problem is: we're going away on Wedesday. Do you think we should postpone our trip if the interviewer can't see her till Thurs or Friday of this week? Someone said that the deadline is 2/20....

Clay,

I sent you a PM

what I heard from an Dartmouth interviewer was only 2/3 applicants were interviewed. He picked up applicants to interview.

Anyone call the admissions office to ask?

I think that interviews will be wrapping up soon as the first wave of likely letters will be mailed out by the end of the month

My interviewer said all interviews have to be done by 2/20.

Mine's tomorrow!
AHHHHH wish me luck!

And my interview also told me they're due 2/20, so...good luck everyone!

I am having mine on 21st, so I don't think the due date is 20th.. or maybe mine is a difference case since I live in Canada? (my interviewer even suggested me a day of 22nd.. but I went w/ 21st..:P)

i dont want to make a new thread so ill just post my question here: if I already had a campus interview and I am also having an alumni interview, how do they weigh those two? My on campus was not very good but I can tell my alumni one will be very good...thanks

an answer would be much appreciated

Typically they are viewed in the same way, though alumni interiewers tend to be much more positive in their written evaluations.

I had one today and it went well :) sighhhhh

I contacted Dartmouth a few days ago and it turns out I was assigned to an interviewer but they never contacted me. I'll be having one soon.
