Hmm

…

I like your name.

Yeah, just send the act, and you have a decent chance at all/most of those schools.

Your GPA is going to hurt you. Dont both with the SAT, your ACT is great.
Brown-20% ish. You have great test scores, your GPA is hurting you a lot though.
Cornell-15% See above
University of Pennsylvania- Im assuming not Wharton, 15%, same as above
Yale- 10%, above
Johns Hopkins-30-45% RD, 50%+ ED, You look like a great Hopkins Applicant, other then your GPA
TCNJ- Not sure
Rutgers-Not sure
Northwestern- 30-40%, They seem to really like high test scores, but also High GPA’s

After I look at the above, Id say I was probably more harsh then it likely, Im actually pretty sure youd gent into Johns Hopkins, which is not reflected by the percentages at all, same for Northwestern. Your odds at ivies are not great though, almost solely from your GPA. If you have a really good start next year it would help you a lot.

superjew, don’t you already have the exact same thread going in the Selection Forum? Isn’t this about the 5th time you’ve posted a version of this question?

Besides, what’s the point? Let’s say StephenHawking is right, (though I hope he’d admit that he’s only guessing), what have you learned from his percentages? Are you going to change your list based on what people on this board tell you? Do you have a % cut-off, i.e. anything below 15% and I’m not applying?

You are a high “B” student with exceptional standardized test scores (excluding SAT CR). That presents a problem for any admissions counselor. Is your GPA from a rigorous school and the ACT/SAT a truer reflection of your knowledge? Or are you a savant at standardized tests but can’t quite deliver in the classroom? Why should they choose you over someone who can deliver both?

As a result of the confusion: Penn, Yale, Cornell and Brown are a roll of the dice: 15% chance at each. It wouldn’t surprise me to see you shut out from these or get into 2 of the 4.

Michigan OOS 20%, OOS applying to engineering 5%
Northwestern 25%
NYU 30%
JHU 30%
TCNJ 75%
Rutgers 85%

Those are my guesses. So what?!

my gpa is low primarily because of family problems throughout high school. My parents constantly fight and argue. It really hinders my concentration. I end up staring at a page for hours at a time. I also have to help my siblings/teach them to do their work because my parents ignore it.

I’ve already told my guidance counselor about it and she will write about it

of course I’m not changing this list. I actually love this list

I think these colleges should choose me over somebody who can deliver both because I have accomplished more outside of the classroom than many applicants. All of my extra curricular have taught me things about myself which I can easily reflect upon on my application.

actually vinceh that was a great post. It’s making me thing about how I should go about with my applications in a different way. Thanks

superjew,

First of all, please know that you have my sincerest sympathies regarding your home situation. High school is challenging enough without having to deal with the issues that you describe. I honestly hope that your guidance counselor presents a compelling case for you in her recommendation.

The problem with chance me threads is that they are a combination of facts, fluff and hope, presented to an audience that, for the most part, has extremely limited experience in the admissions process. All we know is what is presented to us and then we go on to try and provide insight based on our narrow experiences. In other words, WE DON’T KNOW! Asking for input from an internet board of uninformed strangers is one thing; letting them overly affect your application decisions is borderline crazy.

The only value I’ve ever seen to a chance me thread is when an OP gets feedback that reasonably adjusts their Reach/Match/Safety list or someone comes up with schools that the OP hadn’t considered. You’ve gotten both of those things, but to extend it out to “percentages of likelihood” is just pointless.

FWIW, which is to say nothing, I stand by my guesses. I truly hope you get into all of your schools, but I also hope that you prepare yourself for the real possibility that you may be rejected at a number of them. Good Luck.

Your list is fine, as long as you like Rutgers and TCNJ. Otherwise, it’s lacking in matches. NYU might be a match.

your unweighted GPA will bring down your SAT score, which isn’t even that amazing to begin with. where are your safeties? these schools are all too good for you…

lololol, no

Rutger: 97%
TCNJ: 87%

We aren’t calculators. I agree with vinceh–this percentage thing is a bit ridiculous.

I’d have to disagree. At colleges accepting fewer than 15% of applicants, and most are qualified, it’s not a problem at all. There are just too many kids to choose from who have great qualifications across the board.

As an unhooked ORM from an overrepresented state, I don’t think the OP can expect any break for fighting parents.

Actually, a close read of common data sets tells us a lot. Great ECs don’t kick in at most top schools until the stats are there.

Unless you love the NJ schools, I would add some that are a fit with all of your stats.
