I was waitlisted. Good or bad?

Ok before i start id like to tell eveyone what has happend in my application process. 11/27 i applied to Plattsburgh State , in plattsburgh new york. It is my number 1 choice and a month a go they sent me a letter saying that they wanted more info from me, pretty much not accepting me or rejecting me. Now i just checked online and my application says waitlisted. So my main question is what does that even mean? i have not recieved an actual letter in the mail , so i dont know if they will give me a number, but what do you think the chances are? I was talking to my sister and she thinks its good because its not a real popular school, and she thinks that its a saftey for a lot of smart people and that i should get in. So any help is appreciated! by the way sorry for my grammar, i just got my wisdom teeth pulled, and i am on hydro codone and some other stuff that makes me feeel verrrry weird hahahaha. thanks again!

Don’t worry, they may just need a little extra time to review your application.
If you did good in your senior year, send a mid year report of your senior year 1st semester grades.

The wait list is used by a school to fill their class once they determine that not enough of the kids they admitted have chosen to attend that school. You might be offered admission off of the wait list or you might not. Offers do not come until the school’s date for admitted students to commit has passed. You should make sure that you commit to another school that you are admitted to and not just hope that you get in from the wait list. If you are offered later, then you can cancel your commitment to the other school but you may sacrifice whatever deposit you pay. Good luck!

It is unlikely that you will be admitted. One statistic I’ve seen for the University of Michigan put it at 0.3%. However, you can improve your chances by being active and productive in your extracurriculars and letting them know about why you’ve accomplished. The reason that so few make it off the wait list is that many who are placed on it give up. Don’t be one of them if you really desire a place at this school.

Emberjed, Plattsburg =/= UMich. Different schools have different %age of students coming off waitlists.

OP, I would follow cltdad’s advice.

^Platteville’s rate could be lower just as easily as higher than Michigan’s. At any rate, it probably isn’t dramatically higher (or lower). At any rate, do not bank on being admitted but do not believe it is impossible either.

thanks a lot for the help guys! gave me a better persepctive, im definately going to apply to my local CC asap
