So i was wait listed from SUNY Plattsburgh a couple of weeks ago. They told me i have to wait till may 15th till i find out if i got in, and this is their last year wait statistics Offered place on wait list120 Number accepting place 46Accepted from list37.Those are the #'s from college board which look pretty favoring, and i also wrote an essay stating that the school was my number 1 choice, but then i asked about the wait list and i got an email that didnt seem to promising when i asked a question here is the replyHi Jason,

Yes, we received everything we need to keep you on the waitlist. Unfortunately, there is no set ranking to the list so you are not holding a designated spot. Rather, if we have slots available down the road, we will look at the pool of waitlisted students as a whole and make decisions from that point.

I would encourage you however to secure your spot at another institution to ensure yourself a safety net. Most colleges will refund a deposit that you make to hold your spot in the incoming class up until May 1st. I would encourage you to contact your second choice school to see if this is an option and if so, pay your deposit so you know you do have a set spot moving forward. If we are able to offer you a spot in the incoming class and you decide to enroll here instead, you can request that the deposit be refunded at the other school.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
That was the email which makes me nervous pretty much telling me to ensure myself a spot at another school. So what do you guys think? Think ill get in?

As the admissions rep stated, it’s best to deposit somewhere else as a safety net just in case you don’t. It’s also way too vague to tell if you’ll get off the waitlist or not, we’d need to know your grades, EC’s, essay, etc. There’s a lot that goes into evaluating an applicant.

Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing for sure if you’ll get in or not. Based on last year stats you have a good change but there’s never a guarantee. That being said…
Question: If you decide to choose a backup college in case Plattsburgh doesn’t work out would it be a 2yr or 4yr college? If it’s a 4yr, then please by all means send your deposit in by May 1st so you don’t lose that spot with them. For 2yr schools because they have open admissions it’s different.
Then wait to hear back from Plattsburgh, fingers crossed and all. Always have a backup: in other words, hope for the best, plan for the worst! Worst case scenario you can always transfer next year or next semester. I transferred on my first year of college, it’s not that hard.

Anytime! I’m glad to help. However, please note Plattsburgh says has the following statement about transferring:
“High school graduates who have enrolled at a college or university are considered transfer students. Students can transfer at any time - but to be based on the merits of transfer coursework alone, a student must have completed two semesters of full-time study (approximately 24 credits) at the time of application.
Students who have less than 24 credits will be asked to provide a high school transcript or SOAR and SAT/ACT scores, and must also meet both transfer and freshman admission requirements.”
They also have GPA requirements for transfer students.
