I wasn't nominated for Girl's State.

The guidance counselor simply asked for a list of interested students and I of course was on that list. Two days later the people were picked and I wasn’t even an alternate despite my numerous leadership positions in and outside of school. Kinda bummed because i’m interested in becoming a lawyer and going on to work in politics and gov, but lots of other opportunities in this field.

Just posting this thread because i always see people asking about boy’s/girl’s state on here but I never hear about people who are interested but don’t become delegates. Anyone else been in this situation?

I was in a similar situation last year. Out of the 8 people who were nominated, I was the only one who didn’t get in, even though I was pretty confident about my grades/scores/achievements (they’re floating somewhere among my posts, but maybe it was because I was too math/science focused? ^^). It was a bit upsetting at the time, especially since I was interested in exploring new fields, but I’m glad that the people who got in were able to do it.
If it makes you feel better, in total I was basically rejected from all three programs I had applied to in my junior year, but better opportunities arose as a result

Girls State is extra tough as there is only one delegate per school. That often results in qualified candidates not being selected. It’s hard to know exactly what the people from the American Legion Auxiliary are looking for in their delegates.
