I will DEFINITELY chance back :p

I want to major in Mechanic engineering or computer science

Sat: 720m 660w 610cr

Rank: Top 12% (62/550)

GPA is 3.72 weighted

I've taken all AP/Pre-AP classes but no AP tests so far.

Taking APs senior year

I don't want to brag but my essays are pretty creative and good

Got an 11 on SAT essay

I'm Hispanic from a poor area

Parents divorced, caused me a lot of distraction and took away from my academics

My Ecs are good, founded 4 clubs, president of 3, other leader in two other clubs, average community service, plenty of job experience. Took an internship. Good letters of rec, anything else just ask. Applying to engineering.

All state band 2x

WAYYYY more ECs than usual. Most ECs

Senior course load: AP English, AP Chemistry, AP govt, AP macroeco, AP calculus, AP Stat, AP engineering design and development.

By the end of the semester, I can probably be in top 10%

Three job experiences

An engineering internship during high school

Average community service

If I apply with good essays before the end of August, where do you think I'll get in? Please be honest :)

UT Austin
Cornell
Stanford
Case Western Reserve University
Notre Dame
Tulane

A good number of these are reaches, but I didn't list my safeties because they're automatic acceptance.

Good morning everyone! Wanted to make a little bump to start the day :p

Your math sat score is a low for engineering at Cornell, UT Austin, and Sandford, you generally want a 760+ or 34+ on the SAT ACT math section.

Hispanic is a plus, you’re ranking is on the low side for Cornell/Stanford. ECs are strong, make sure to select which ones you put on the CommonApp carefully. You’ll probably get into all besides Cornell/Stanford, you can attempt Cornell ED, but I’d say you have the same chance as anyone because of your low SAT (Retake?) and unweighted GPA. Good Luck!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1537738-my-one-only-chance-thread-need-advice-will-chance-back-penn-ed-hyp-etc.html</a></p>

You are correct that these schools are mostly reach (even high reach) for you. If your wGPA is 3.72, your uwGPA would be lower than that. This alone would put you below the 25% of admission. Your SAT is also below 25% of most of these schools (particularly engineering).

Rank and gpa are pretty low for stanford and cornell, sat is really low. But your senior course load, all state band, and involvement in clubs is good. Also the fact that you’re hispanic and low income are considered hooks. Keep in mind that you will have to take 2 SAT subject tests to apply for Stanford/Cornell. Also, do you have any major awards?

UT Austin - Don’t know much about this school, sorry.
Cornell - Reach
Stanford - High Reach
Case Western Reserve University - High Match
Notre Dame - Don’t know this one either :frowning:
Tulane - Match

Chance me back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1544737-chances-ucsd-will-chance-back.html#post16303445</a></p>

Ok I did! Anyone have opinions on Notre Dame or USC?

UT Austin: Match/High Match (are you from Texas?)
Cornell: Reach
Stanford: High Reach
Case Western Reserve University: Match
Notre Dame: Reach
Tulane: Match
USC: I’ve seen some really stupid kids get in, so match to low match.

You have good hooks and if you bring up your math SAT scores plus GPA in senior year, I think you have a competitive shot. Good luck! Chance? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1544121-chance-duke-ed.html</a></p>

UT Austin - Match
Cornell - Reach
Stanford - High Reach
Case Western - Match
Notre Dame - Low reach-reach
Tulane - Match
USC- Match
Like those above me, your sat scores and gpa are somewhat low for a lot of these schools. At this point your gpa is hard to change, so maybe focus on increasing your standardized testing scores? Being hispanic is a hook, so that will help your case.

Chance back?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1543850-early-action-princeton-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

UT Austin: Match/High Match
Cornell: Reach
Stanford: High Reach
Case Western Reserve University: Low Reach
Notre Dame: Reach
Tulane: Match

The above all factors in your race, the fact you’re likely underprivileged, and that you went through a divorce, which may give you extra leeway that you might not otherwise get if you weren’t an underrepresented minority or low-income, etc.

My thread isn’t really a chance thread but I’d appreciate any input.
