I wish I had done worse on Nov. SATs... Do I SUBMIT?! HELP!!!

Hi guys, I truly wish I had worse on my nov. SATIIs... kinda.

I just got a 730 Lit score, and 690 spanish w/ listening score. My previous SATII scores had been 800 math IIC... 680 physics, 660 spanish.

My question is, do I even submit these scores to my schools. I have submitted my SAT scores to all my schools with a top score of 2200 SAT I. However, I took the SAT I again in oct... and did much worse, 2040... Luckily I had submitted my scores before.

Now I don't know if I should resubmit my scores. If I turn in my new SAT II scores, the schools now see the 2040 as well... I know schools say they take the highest scores only... but I mean, I dont even want them to see the 2040... Id much rather them think I only got a 2200. (I am applying to top tier schools, while my scores may not that high to you guys, I have gotten striaght a's in high school... so I make up for it there)

Also... its probably not worth changing from EA to RD so my EA school (stanford) can get my new SATII scores?

Mainly I need help with the submitting or not question... thanks

don't let this thread die, I need help:

here is a better visual

Colleges see now

SATI 2200 (740 Math, 760 writing, 700 CR)
SATII (Math 2c 800, Physics 680, Spanish 660)

Would see if I resend in scores:
SATI 2040 (Critical Reading 680 Math 710 Writing 650) (HOW???!, I am idiot)
SATI 2200 (740 Math, 760 writing, 700 CR)
SATII (Math 2c 800, Physics 680, Spanish 660)
SATII (Lit 730, Spanish w/ listenign 690)

What to do...?

Don't send it if you have to change from EA to RD, but if you get deferred it can't hurt to send it.

What do you see to be the advantages of sending in new SATII scores that average 710 when you have already submitted three SATII scores that average 710?

If I was in this situation, I wouldn't send the new scores. You already have three pretty solid SAT II scores sent, and obviously 2200 is better than 2040. The best possible combination would be if you could just send your new SAT II scores and not the new SAT I, but since that's impossible..

i don't think it hurts you if you send them.
there are two things to consider

first, when i was visiting colleges (pretty top tier, even though i don't know where you're applying (HYPSM would make the following look infantile), but i consider cornell and jhu pretty darn good schools) the tour guides, who claimed to know a thing or two about admissions, emphatically claimed that the HIGHEST SECTIONS from all sat I tests would be taken INDISCRIMINANTLY, and therefore, they would consider your 2200 as nothing less than a 2200, even though another testing may have been worse (they are looking for reasons to ACCEPT you, not reject you).

However, there is a second thing to consider. Sat2's are sat2's... they show aptitude in what you've learned in school, but aren't "make or break" in admissions so to speak, unless you have strangely inconsistent or borderline horrible scores i.e. three 700's scores and a wildcard of like 510... that throws up red flags, or like 400's in 3 different exams. All your scores other than math2c, which is exceptional, are relatively similar, and personally i don't think that showing them a 730 in lit and 690 in spanish really affects your chances that much.

in sum, it's not gonna hurt you to send em at all really, but, on the other hand, it probably won't help that much [or at all] either.

I'd flip a coin

Other than the 730 literature, which is not bad but who cares anyway, there is no good news in the second set to send. Am I missing something?

Don't send the new scores, the only difference is your 730 in lit which doesn't bring too much too your report while decreasing 160 points in your SAT I does look kinda bad. Just stick with your first score report, it is very strong.

What you sent in is solid. I do not see any benifit in letting them see your new low SAT I score. I know what colleges say about taking the highest socre, but why take a chance?

Hmm... I am bumping this, I have to send in apps this weekend and need some more advice

My college counselor said to send them... I dunno?

I need help...

The thing that sucks is that on common app... I have to list all of my scores... so even if they take highest, they would see that lower score...

Honestly, what would you do in my shoes, I am apply to Northwestern, Wash U St. Louis, Harvand and Yale (why not), Stanford EA (too late to send, will send if deferred), Duke, Georgetown, and maybe about 4 others safetyier schools TBD which I will have to send them all to.

"Hmm... I am bumping this, I have to send in apps this weekend and need some more advice My college counselor said to send them... I dunno?"

If you can't figure out on your own that it makes no sense to send them, you have no business applying to Stanford.

wow I went from a 2180 to a 2040 in October, what a similarity (I only let one school see it)

Don't send.
College counselors can be stupid at times (speaking from experience).

ohhhhhh Mensa... you truly are a piece of work huh?

Why don't you take a break from tearing down other people, and get to work on your own school work or apps...

I'm soley asking for others opinions... while mine is the only one that counts. Why do you think the prez has advisors (while, besides the fact that W. isnt the sharpest tool in the shed, use other presidents as examples).

Ckmets... what would do if you were in my shoes?

question: if you submitted your scores to, say, four schools in October, and then you took more tests in November and you want to submit these scores to those same 4 schools, would they receive the October scores twice?

any input please?

Well, the 730 on the Literature is rather nice! Looking at it from the Admissions standpoint, many of those top tier schools you are considering usually take your top three SAT II scores into account (as a significant portion of your overall academic evaluation). So far, your three best SAT IIs are the 800 (nice job!), 730, and 690. This is going somewhere I promise. In my case (for Harvard and some other Ivies), my top three SAT IIs are Spanish: 800, French: 740, and U.S. History: 720. Many top tier schools take AP scores into account alongside SAT IIs. It would really help me to know if you took any AP Exams already that correspond to the SAT IIs you took. What colleges do is they either bump your SAT II average UP or DOWN based on AP scores. If by some chance you took the AP English Lit, AP Calc (AB or BC), AP Spanish, and/or AP Physics (and scored a 4 or 5 on any or all of these), then your SAT II average will be bumped up!!! I wouldn't pass over this opportunity.
So, my final advice is, IF you did take any of the AP Exams that I mentioned and scored well on them, then I recommend sending your new scores. The SAT II + AP combo will definitely outweigh the lower SAT I score. Besides, they'll understand that the SAT I passages and essay prompts change each month so if anything, they'll realize that the passages may have been less interesting to you or something. IF you don't have awesome AP scores to back up your SAT IIs, then you may consider not sending. I hope my advice has been somewhat helpful to you, considering that very few people take that aspect of admissions into account. Good luck to you!

-Jon

Thank you for the advice Jon

Unfortunatly... the only AP I have taken is Psychology... maybe I could write Psychology in spanish and make them think it was AP spanish.

I think I will not send the scores... that lower SATI score is just devasting to me... blasted SATs...

BTW, nice score on spanish, I have been taking spanish for 8 years, and still did poorly. How'd you do that? Mostly native speakers only score that high. Well done

I dont really think they will look at it, but on the other hand the SAT IIs arent so amazing that they will make your app that much better, so I would not send it. It saves you money also. I am trying to decide whether to retake the IIC if I am deferred but that would force me to report my 2040 to all my schools.

Yes, that is tough Ckmets... weird about the same scores pretty much. I dont know what happened, I studied just the same as well the second time...

Do you know if I am waitlisted, then could I resend the scores... would they consider those then?
