I wish tuitions were just priced fairly.....

poetgrl…also another factor, you are correct. Cheap money is never cheap.

MOWC

Actually you said a lot more than that - including how you know to function in certain social situations with alcohol and people drive home over the legal limit all the time - and that you yourself did it often. But hey, if you don’t want to rehash it here - so be it.

As far as me - I rarely drink - and would never drive under the influence although I probably did once many years ago when I was in college. Luckily no harm came of it but it was stupid to do

Agree there debrockman! avoid the borrowing like a curse, myself.

Just a quick add, drunk walking is more dangerous than drunk driving…i know it’s not relevant, but it’s a bit shocking/funny nonetheless

debrockman…yeah…there is no such thing as personal responsiblity, right?

The commercial banks didn’t do anything wrong. Mortgage companies like Country Wide Credit didn’t do anything wrong. Homebuyers didn’t do anything wrong. Nothing wrong with no-doc loans, option arms…credit default swaps, AIG…ratings agencies, quant funds, the SEC…etc…the fact that the debt load in the US is over 350% of GDP…

Right now, my daughter’s friend is in Haiti helping to put together an orphanage. They continue to seek donations at haitipoverty.org. An amazing kid. If anyone is a Christian, please pray for her. This kid runs off to help in every emergency…Katrina, Haiti (she’s been 8 times) doesn’t matter. She’s there. She’s adopting a little Haitian girl who has AIDS. She’s going to be a great teacher…but she plans to teach in CALCUTTA! For a 24 yo woman, who might weigh 100 pounds, she’s a mighty little thing. Way off track, I know. But I’d appreciate prayers ;)

Berry- Be nice. It’s almost Valentine’s Day. OK, Cupid?

Sorry rocket but not true. If you are drunk and walk into someone you certainly aren’t likely to kill them - whereas if drunk and driving and you hit them with your car, you are

^^MOWC…I LOLed…

If he doesn’t catch that one, Imma spell it out

beryberry-Per mile walked it is FAR more dangerous(in fact a drunk walker is 8x more likely to die than a drunk driver)
A nobel Laureate in Econ did this research, and it was in the book SuperFreakanomics

<a href=“HuffPost - Breaking News, U.S. and World News | HuffPost”>HuffPost - Breaking News, U.S. and World News | HuffPost;

so…ya…there are the FACTS

dstark, unfortunately Congress set all that up as a “go”. They made the rules. Banks don’t deregulate themselves. But I must admit. I know some bankers who made job changes from banks that were operating like that, knowing that it was irresponsible.

Yes Rocket, the stairs are dangerous. Now drunk BORROWING??? I do not recommend this at all.

Your daughter’s friend sounds like she has incredible heart and strength. Good luck to her.

debrockman - nice story to hear, I will keep her in my thoughts

MOWC - sorry, even though you like to stalk me here, I am not your cupid

rocket - catch what? And I could care less about people too stupid enough to kill themselves walking drunk. What worries me is people who drive drunk and kill others

Rocket,
katliamom-sometimes I think kids with a “chip on their shoulder” are the ones who end up changing the world…they want it bad and know how to find a way to succeed, no matter the odds

– another reason why elite schools welcome them, often at the expense of upper-middle class kids (like debrockman’s) who have a great deal handed to them.

No…the banks made the rules…congress just passed the rules.

Too true dstark, too true.

I’m just saying they should make the cost reasonable for everyone. Nobody should get a free ride based on need, and nobody should have to overpay to make up the difference. Then you would go if you got in, and if you had to take a little debt, you would do it if it made financial sense. My dirt poor husband took loans for medical school after attending the local liberal arts college on a full-ride merit scholarship. He earned it the hard way. I admire the heck out of that. So now his kid (who was handed everything on a silver platter, I hear) is unable to go to the most prestigious schools because…well, the dirt poor kid just did too well. It all seems kind of peculiar.

Sigh. How disappointing. I guess someone beat me to it- emphasis on “beat”.

^^MomofWildChild…should I just spell it out? I’d love to be the one to be completely upfront about it… PLEASE

Well, dstark, there’s probably some truth to that, but congress and wall street and the ceos of the big banks are all just one big club and if you look closely at campaign contributions, they largely appear to be of one party, not to be mentioned. I would like to add here that I am not the other party, I am a libertarian who subscribes to the Austrian school of Economics.

debrockman

I agree
