I wonder how relationships go at UCSB?

We all know UCSB is famous (or notorious) for its party school reputation. As a result, I know that much of the campus is interested in casual hook ups rather than relationships. The thread title says it all. I'm really not much of the hook up guy myself.

And I don't have a source for this, but I heard somewhere around 2/3 of UCI students find their future spouses at UCI. What could the number for UCSB be?

Well, I don’t know the “number”… but I mean, it’s not like the whole student body parties… As you can see in most of the threads… some people people party and some ppl don’t. Just like the hook up thing… some ppl do the whole casual hook up thing… but many people have solid relationships… If there’s a will, there’s a way! Relationships totally work.

I am not a student at UCSB so I can’t say with certain experience or accuracy. However from what other students have said I believe usually it is the freshman and sophmores that have the tendency to go around mating like bunnies and by the time junior and senior year rolls around the appeal of nailing everything you see dies down.

Granted this hardly encompasses all classmen of the aforementioned categories, just the typical generalization and what current classmen have mentioned.

The whole hook up scene (and the party reputation, for that matter) is blown way out of proportion. We have this class on human sexuality (Sociology 152A), and every quarter the professors tell the class that hook ups are not anywhere near as common as everyone thinks they are. Of course, I can’t remember the actual numbers anymore. Although, I wouldn’t bet on anywhere near 2/3 of students finding his/her spouse at UCSB.

Moral of the story: there are definitely people here looking for relationships. As for how they go, I’d wager pretty much the same as everywhere else–they take work, but are well worth it!

I remember something about that as well when I was doing research on UCSB. I believe it was 20% of all UCSB students practice abstinence.

In either case, it doesn’t matter where you are; you will find individuals who do enjoy the hook up scene and those who are more partial to long-term and meaningful relationships, not to mention everything inbetween.
