UCSB social scene?

Okay, this probably seems kinda stupid....but I believe a school's social scene is important to me because it can either be helpful or distracting. I know it's a party school filled with hot girls.

So, are there a lot of slutty people or ******bags at the school? Because when I see pictures of wild parties, I often see those. I don't know about UCSB though.

I'm not a party person. I don't like to get drunk or do drugs. I don't even like dancing or one night stands. But, I do like to socialize and meet new people at parties, and I think they're a good for meeting new people.

How are the students in general? Are most friendly and accepting, or are they shallow and mean?

Also, I'll be a minority since I'm Asian....I'm used to being a majority here in Norcal. Is there much racism?

As I said, the school is filled with really hot people, which I'm not used to because there are hardly any at my school. What if we aren't attractive at all? Does it get intimidating?

I didn't really look much into colleges when applying, or else I probably would have applied somewhere else, but most things about UCSB seems really good, aside from the questions I have.

dude, with all the hot girls, this is indeed madness …

No there aren’t alot of “slutty” or “***bag” people. Yeah there are some, except I wouldn’t say “slutty” because that’s a harsh term, but yeah there are going to be ***bags anywhere. I’ve met all kinds of people, and the majority of people I know are really nice and helpful. For the most part the student body is very accepting. There are alot of people your type who don’t like do that and only go out to socialize so don’t worry. You might think you are a minority but I assure you, that won’t be the case. I see ALOT of asians on campus, especially in my freshman class. That 17% asian thing doesn’t seem true at all, it seems alot more. I’m guessing more asians are enrolling into UCSB, in fact my Asian American Studies professor told us that the population of asians in SB is rising. So far I haven’t experienced any racism at all.

Maybe I’m shallow or something but the whole “everyone is hot” at SB seems like a HUGE exaggeration. Again, there are ALL kinds of people here. There are alot of beachy looking people, geeky looking people, fashionable people, people who don’t really care about what they wear, very shy people, foreign people, I don’t know… this list goes on. I mean as a diverse campus and with unpredictable admissions the randomness of the types of people that enroll is pretty high. There are alot of attractive people here of course, but for the most part, at least for me, the types of people I see are usually just average to above average. You definitely won’t feel intimidated. Besides do you really expect the majority of the students in the physics major, math major, computer science major, or other science major (the science departments in SB is huge, SB is known as the school for sciences) to be filled with insanely hot model type people? Okay yeah that’s a pretty bad question, I’m not saying that the people in the sciences are ugly or anything, hell I’m in the sciences too ahaha. But I’m just trying to point the fact that the whole “everyone here is hot” stereotype is just a mere exaggeration.

The party scene is definitely exaggerated. The *****bag people are almost always from SBCC. Pretty much everyone I’ve met at UCSB is easy to get along with. The rumors about everyone in SB being attractive are also exaggerated. I would definitely say on average, UCSB students are more attractive than normal. But not everyone is good looking, not even close.

I don’t think you would have any trouble fitting in; as fendi said, there are all types of people here.

Thanks for the replies.

I’m going to be a psychology major, by the way. How are the people in social sciences?
