I would appreciate it if some of ya'll would chance me for Duke ED

Hi.
I desire to be admitted to Duke University(Trinity College of Arts & Sciences) ED.
Here are my stats:
White male from New Jersey(ouch).
Go to highly ranked prep school in central NJ(Peddie School).

My school doesn't weight GPA or rank, but i'd be top 10%.

UWGPA including freshman year: 3.72.
UWGPA excluding freshman year: 3.95(came from an abysmal public middle school and was disinterested with school and everything; quickly wised up).
AP scores: 5 AP US, 4 AP Eng Lang.

SAT scores: 2240(all one test); 790 Math, 740 CR, 710 Writing.(retaking in October)
33 ACT: 35 eng, 34 math, 34 reading, 30 science.(retaking in September)
SAT II scores: 800 Math II, 800 US History.

ECs:
100+ miscellaneous comm service hours(explanation below)
80 hours volunteering at an old folks home helping out.(11)
15 random hours at school comm service days.
20ish for an ESL program(10, 11, 12) at my school, but not nearly all of my hours for this have been recorded. the teacher who runs the program is haphazard with his records. in reality, I have done this for either one hour or two a week during my lunch since sophomore year, tutoring our english-deficient janitors the language. it requires compassion and spanish skills.
Writer for sports section of newspaper freshman year.
Sports/Current Events editor(switched to CE after soph year.) 10, 11, 12
Int. Politics Club- writer for daily web publication and head web technician.
Vice-President/Co-reviver of Country Music Club.
Varsity Baseball since freshman year.
Varsity soccer since sophomore year(had to quit though midway through junior year because of a knee injury).
Between Freshman and Sophomore year, my Babe Ruth all star team won state championship. I was named to all district team.
For Senior year: chosen as a community prefect(mentor to freshman), orientation advisor, and chosen to Gold Key, which is a group of 10 rising seniors who are exemplary. Obligated to give a tour a week and usher many school functions.
Within the last couple of months I have become very interested in politics and am determined to start up the Young Republicans Club at my school(though it is incredibly left-leaning, there are some adamant Republicans in the rough).

this summer, I also did a 1 week internship with a local family friend who has his own law firm. In addition, I was the assistant coach on his 11 year old son's all-star little league team.

and in terms of work experience, my freshman year i was an umpire for the local little league from march through august. my sophomore year, i worked in the kitchen of the local ancient order of hibernians scrubbing pots and pans during banquets. during the summer after my sophomore year and junior year, i tutored local kids in mathematics.

Essays: definitely above average.
Recommendations: excellent.
and classes for next year just so ya'll can get a more complete picture:
AP Calculus BC
AP European History
AP U.S. Government and Politics
AP Spanish Language
Organic Chemistry
English 12

Thank you very much to those that reply.

The odds seem good to me…you’re pretty strong academically and also reasonably involved with your community. With Duke’s academic excellence and tremendous outreach, they’ll likely be interested in an applicant like you, especially ED.
Good luck!

Good shot ED but not a lock. RD becomes very unpredictable but you still seem like a strong applicant. If you do indeed apply ED I like your chances.

Thanks Nvnc avt nvnqvam and schoolsearching for the replies… I was just remembering that my school in fact doesn’t give out GPA’s, just transcript, thus Duke would not see that my GPA is rather low. All they would see is that i had a poor freshman year and pretty stellar sophomore and junior years(if it’s worth anything, i performed my best during that all-important junior year: 3.983 GPA). Does any of this increase my chances at admission?

Bump… anyone else, please?

looks good. I don’t think you need to retake the ACT/SAT but if you think you can do significantly better then go for it. your GPA isn’t too bad either. Good luck!
