I was rushing after my computer CRASHED with my edited version of my essay. So, I submitted everything really fast and was still 46 seconds late. Anyways, I spelled a word wrong. The thing is, it's supposed to be a cultural word referring to a time period in history. Do you think the college admission officers will search the time period, or just believe it is an acceptable adjective. It's a word that not many people know. Think: Marehan...

Someone help!!!

Is the word Marehan? If so, I agree that not many people know it. However, it seems to refer to a Somali clan (or possibly a sub-clan), which leave me confused as to what you’re talking about.

@TheWhimsicalKid, how did you come up with your user name? You did not get a response for 8 minutes at 2AM and asked again.

Relax. AdComs have seen typos before. AdComs understand that sometimes procrastinators apply to their school. AdComs understand that bad planning and timing are not unusual traits with teenagers.

Learn from this. A plan that requires perfection will often miss a deadline.

If you are not accepted, it is unlikely that this was the sole reason.

No one is going to look up the one word. They are reading dozens of essays a day. If I were reading someone’s essay and a I came across a word that was only incidental to the narrative that I didn’t recognize – I’d just move on. Just like I do with my other reading. It’s not an exercise in vocabulary dissection – the essays are read to get a feel for your voice – to learn what is important in what you wish to convey. No one atomizes it into bits like that. Now, alternatively, bad grammar usage and choosing ridiculous words when others would clearly suffice (look up “plethora effect”) too much is annoying.

Thank you, and no it was a similar word…

Okay, the word was Mamluk and I was talking about different types of places I went to in my home country that were affected by history (I want to major in history). And I wrote a quick sentence to sum up my experiences.
For example: From _____ and _____ to ______ and Mamluk (but misspelled) mosques, I have gained a new sense of life in which I live and breathe history.

And honestly I am the exact opposite of my username, lol.

They won’t even notice unless they have been there (and then might assume it is an alternate spelling). Least of your worries. Get cracking on the rest of your apps so you don’t have to submit at the last minute again.

Thanks again! And, I want a little break, but I will be sure to submit everything by December 1st (school policy actually). I’m so exhausted!

[What intparent just said.]
