I've done all my schooling in the US , so im stuck as far as my options. Is there a way to apply while green card is pending - i cant apply international

I don’t quite understand how you are “stuck”. You can certainly apply to and enroll in college while your green card is pending. The only difficulty is that you may not be eligible for federal financial aid until the Adjustment of Status gets approved. I don’t actually know at exactly which point in the AOS process you become eligible for federal aid - something to check with the financial aid office of your choice or an experienced immigration lawyer.

You should nonetheless apply as an international student. Unfortunately, this means that you’ll be treated the same as all other internationals for financial aid and admission purposes.

Not sure about federal financial aid, but for college-based institutional financial aid, you’ll need an SSN (not just a tax ID).

There’s no reason to make a binary distinction between “American” and “international” applicants. Most colleges don’t make that distinction in their application process either. Instead I would recommend going through the application step by step and checking which requirements apply to your specific situation. (For example, you would complete the school forms for students educated in the US, and you might also want to read the financial aid and scholarship information for students who are not US citizens or permanent residents.)

Keilexandra, why do you say that students need a SSN for institutional aid? That’s not true at any of the colleges I have researched. Most international students certainly don’t have a SSN when they apply for financial aid.
