Iap

What are those of you who currently attend MIT doing for IAP?

What are the most interesting IAP activities?

I'll be working with MIT's F.I.R.S.T. Robotics team, which mentors two local high schools in that competition. It's the perfect schedule for an MIT student, since we don't start working until the high schools get out, or, about when I will be waking up. ;)

There are tons of activities, many of which are listed on MIT's IAP website: <a href="http://web.mit.edu/iap%5B/url%5D">http://web.mit.edu/iap</a></p>

I'll be taking 18.02A, and maybe doing the scuba PE class! Woo hoo! I'll also be doing rifle team practices and leading a weekly bible study.

I'll be working in a biological engineering lab, focusing on radiation hormesis. I think I should also try to apply for a few scholarships and fix up my resume. IAP will be a nice break for getting personal work done.

Otherwise, enjoying Boston and Cambridge.

6.370 (<a href="http://robocraft.mit.edu/%5B/url%5D">http://robocraft.mit.edu/</a>)
Mars Gravity Biosatellite UROP (<a href="http://www.marsgravity.com/%5B/url%5D">http://www.marsgravity.com/</a>)
Sitting in on 18.02A and 18.095
Intermediate Basketball for PE

lots of poker :)

also working on Mars Gravity, taking 5.302 (an experimental chemistry class), sleeping, cooking, and going to a whole slew of random iap events.

vecter, may I ask why you're taking 8.022 next semester instead of 8.02? You dont want to join the crew in teal? or are you majoring in 8?

Hey alejandria,

I want to major in course 6 and I heard that 8.02T was TERRIBLE! Quite a few of my friends who've taken the class said that they didn't learn anything, and a girl down the hall from me who's also doing course 6 said that 8.022 was very helpful for 6.002. Considering I have practically 0 E/M background, I think it's better in the long run to suck it up this semester and take the hard version and learn more. My roommate also took 8.022 this past semester and he's majoring in 6 and BE, so go figure lol.

has anyone on these boards tried maslab?

Biochem class (at Harvard)
Studying for 18.02 placement test
Esperanto class
Mars Gravity UROP - I didn't realize there were so many of us on here, hehe

Good luck with 8.022, vecter. I took it last semester, and it beat me like an ugly stepchild. I barely escaped with my life (and my C...but C=P, and I ain't proud). Vector calc at 9:30 am - sucks. Get a good study group.

lol thanks, my roommie took it and did pretty well so I guess I'll ask him for help when I need. I think 18.02A is from 12-1, which is nice cause I'm not planning to wake up before 11 am :) I already transferred out of 18.02 but I barely know it so this is going to be crucial before 8.022--there's a friend down @ EC who I'm going to "teach", so hopefully things will work out loll

btw what part of the mars team do you work on? I'm on Payload working on electronics

I'm in science, working on the urinalysis system. Yes, I get to spend IAP playing with mouse pee. Collecting it is the fun part...long hours in the basement of 68 holding mice over Saran Wrap. This is what I get for being a biology-type space dork.

11 am? Sigh. My class starts at 8:30 am TR, and given an hour of transportation time, that works out to really frickin' early. But I'm trying to get into better habits; I nearly ****ed myself over by going nocturnal last semester and never going to class. So a little masochism is called for ;-)

I'm taking glassblowing.
Which is only four hours a week.
And then I'm sleeping and socialing a lot.
Which is making for a majorly awesome IAP.

did anyone else do mystery hunt? That was a lot of fun

Oh yeah, mystery hunt was fun. I didn't do much, but me and two other friends solved the Two Towers puzzle. (The one in Stata). That was awesome, and gave us a great sense of accomplishment.
