I hope this is the right place to post, I've been searching around for a while...

I'm an IB Diploma candidate as of right now, but I really want to apply to an Art High School for Literary Arts. I plan on a major in Creative Writing in college but I'm not sure which one would be a better choice for me to do. I'm not a stellar student in IB either (Straight Cs right now), if that makes a difference.

I’d suggest to get out of IB. If you can’t pull off 4.0 weighted in IB it’s not worth it at all. You’ll be getting better grades if you get out IB.

IB really screws over those who are unfit for the program (procrastinators, not working hard enough), and benefits tremendously to those who do well. There are no in-betweens, really.

I agree with melin720’s reasoning, but would also like to add that applying to the art school is good for you because you already know you want to study creative writing in college and have a chance at going to a high school that offers you the opportunity to focus on that goal.
Because the IB program has it’s own pre-determined course of study for each year, there’s not a lot of flexibilty in your schedule in terms of taking classes you personally want to take. You’re stuck taking the classes handed to you-- those required of the IB curriculm, as I’m sure you know. Therefore, you can miss out on tailoring your studies to fit your aspirations.

I’m not sure how far along you are in the program, but at a C-average, it is probably best to drop IB diploma status even if you don’t get in to the art school, unless you can honestly see yourself improving. Because truth be told, being IB diploma only gets tougher.
This is not to say that in the event that you can’t or don’t go to the other school you should drop IB classes altogether; rather, you may consider dropping only the IB classes you particularly struggle with and keeping those you believe you can handle. This way, you have less of a workload to deal with and can still get certificates for the classes you did take at the IB level and given you score high enough on the IB exams, may also earn college credit for.
By focusing on certificate rather than diploma, you are also relieved of the extra requirements such as the extended essay and CAS. With those out of the picture, you should have plenty of opportunity to really excel in your academics.

Whichever happens for you, best of luck. :)

Hell no. If he keeps getting the grades he gets he needs to GET OUT. No prestigous liberal arts college is gonna take someone with C average in IB. If the OP sticks up and tries really hard and thinks he can pull off half As half Bs then sure he can stay in.

But if he drops he may go 4.0+, serioiusly. A lot of IB students in my class who dropped out went from like 3.2 GPA to 4.5 it’s INSANE.

I don’t take Art HL (because I’m not a visual artist but a literary artist) and I have a D+ in English HL1 right now, so it’s not going well at all.

I would have dropped IB already, but the pressure/requirements from my parents are either Art School (which I still have to convince them that colleges would prefer that over IB) or sticking all the way through Diploma. And my parent works in the school district so I can’t “sneak out” of Diploma without him knowing either…
