I am an A/A+ student in every IB course I am taking and want to know how colleges and the IVies are going to evaluate or look at the IB diploma on my transcript.

Also if anyone here has taken the Ib diploma and can tlel me your experience with getting into colleges....it would really help because all the schools i am looking at are all in the top 100 universities, including Ivies and some very competivitive non-ivy schools.

Depends on your school's quality and stuff.

I got into Rice, MIT, Cornell, and UT Plan II with a B to a B+ average in IB classes (4 HL, 3 SL, 2 AP), but my school has absurd standards and the average passrate and scores are 100% and 32 points respectively.

Agreed. I am full IB diploma, however my school is only in it's 2nd year of IB and many kids at my school kinda got jipped because of this. We were able to get into many top public schools like UCLA and UCB but not many really elite privates, like the Ivies. IB is great, but make sure it's at a well established school.

And remember IB=death. Ok well not really. But it is an insane amount of work, so be willing to put in the time and effort. Other then that, full IB is absolutely amazing in terms of college prep.

Then that is good. I'd say you'll be just fine. Make sure you don't come off as a lazy genius though because A to A+ average can come off as such, but IB helps in that respect because it is known for a heavy workload.

I'm beginning to think that my teachers might be insane. I average 4-7 hrs on weekdays and i pull all nighters on saturday night at IHOP. I would think it was just me and my ignorance if it wasn't for the fact that everyone else at my school is doing the same (14 yr old prodigy, many 2250+ SAT people, NMSF's, etc)

IBers at my school do very well with state schools, but their acceptances to top colleges are only slightly higher. Everyone except those at Ivys came back reporting that IB work was much harder, and that college essays are a breeze.

I'm quite surprised that so many people complain about IB's workload. Yes, it's more work than other students get, except those in a bajillion AP courses, but I am definitely not working three hours a night! I usually do anywhere from 10 minutes to two hours of homework with the odd night with four hours of work. I feel bad for high schoolers who do that regularly....

A few colleges told me that IB is seen as the most rigorous course that a student in highschool can take and said that if I am doing well it really helps when colleges examine the transcript.

IB Diploma is certainly a boost if you can handle it, and it looks like with your grades, you're doing just fine. most top colleges expect you to take the IB Diploma programme at your school if it is offered.

that said, it is still quite possible to get into a top college NOT taking IB at your school too. similar to what others have mentioned though, the acceptance percentages to top colleges for IB students is usually slightly higher than those who aren't taking IB at the same school.

p.s. and yes i do agree IB Diploma is harder than college (i go to top 25 public)

if you have A's in IB then you'll be fine. it looks good 2 come from IB successfully. but thats not all that will get you in. make sure you have great extra curriculars b/c at the top schools everyone has already excelled academically
