IB Diploma

How good does being an IB Diploma candidate look on your transcript? I originally just wanted to take AP tests, but I think I can manage the IB Diploma, too. Would having both the IB Diploma and being a National AP Scholar be impressive on a transcript?

It can gain you automatic admission to some places. and i have friends with sub-3.6 GPAs out of my IB programme going to very good places next year and some with substantial money

Getting an IB Diploma in addition to becoming an AP Scholar is nearly impossible, simply due to logistics.

^not true.

take AP exams in addition to your IBs.

I will graduate with an IB diploma and an AP scholar.

hell, i already am an AP scholar

I meant National (the 8+ one).

Fitting in 8 AP classes and the 6 required IB classes (3/4 of which span 2 years) is very difficult (at least in my experience).

Although you don’t necessarily have to take the course to take the AP exam…

I’m taking the AP exams with the IB courses.

I will graduate with around 11 APs, and have reached 8 this year.

Well then I take back my claim.

(And seeing as you’d most likely be a very capable judge, would you mind taking a look at my thread here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/723210-ap-psychology-ap-environmental-science.html</a> Thanks.)

/Thread-jacking.

It is usually considered very impressive on one’s transcript. But I think the real benefit is the skills you develop from the challenging workload (I would not do full IB just for admissions).

Actually, many of my friends qualify for National AP Scholar. By taking 1 AP freshman year, 2 sophomore year, and 5-6 junior year, you get your 8 needed.

I don’t think it gives you any auto-admission or any real benefits, but it shows to colleges you’re going for the maximum of what you can do and I mean, it does look good. You are challenging yourself, you’re losing a tonnnnn of sleep (LOL!), and you’re gaining a lot of stuff internationally and lots of new experiences (Group 4, CAS hours, TOK, etc.)

I hope it pays off. :)

You’re basically not required to do any actual work towards your IB diploma until after you apply to colleges.

^^^^In general, that’s not true.
