My D is still working on getting IB Portuguese A2 HL, exam score 6 (out of 7 max), recognized -like the Spanish, French, and German are. My D emailed the head of the Portuguese Dept at UNC early last July about this (in Portuguese) and the reply (in English) was that he was not familiar with the IB program. I guess he wasn't too familiar w/ Portuguese either.

Now my D is working on this through her academic advisor, but it is taking forever. My feeling is that it is not being taken very seriously, but I could be wrong.

The IB Coordinator at her school is ready to take this to the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) headquarter's attention. He says he can guarantee she will get credits for it if we do that.

We're already in November and this has been going on since CTOPS in August. Are we being blown off? Should we go to IBO? How much longer should we wait? Is there an "expiration date" on IB/AP credits?

Any information you may have on this would be very appreciated!

continuing... The IB Coordinator wrote a letter requesting that the credits be recognized by UNC and sent the 30-pages-or-so written curriculum of the IB Portuguese S2 HL course/exam.

Still no answer. The academic advisor's answer is "he's a very busy man. He'll get to it soon."

I got French credit up to the 204 level for a 5 in the French SL exam, so I imagine you would at least get that much for IB - which should exempt you from the UNC language requirement.

they tell you that pretty much for any IB HL language, you get 203, 204, and 260 credit. I assume that the rules for Portuguese would be the same as those for German, Spanish, and French.

Your daughter should probably take the 300 level course.

margala...
I agree. It sounds like she should get 9 credits for HL Portuguese A2, like the other languages merit.... ummmm... still not quite sure what to advise my D to do about this.
