IB Program and studying in India

Hello all,

I am a new member in this website, but I already feel that the information is very useful. Thanks to all the contributors.

I need some guidance for my son who entered 12 grade now and has a strong ambition to study medicine in bs/md combined programs. Please help.

Does the IB program extended essay(in chemistry) count as research experience needed to apply for bs/md program. He is doing research in the school lab with the help of his chemistry teacher.

My son studied in Ohio until 6th grade and then we moved to India. However my husband stayed back in US and resides in Ohio and pays Ohio taxes. In this case will we be considered "In state" for Ohio. My son is a US citizen doing IB in India.

My sons school does not give rankings. Is that a problem ?

How are the IB - scores translated to equivalent GPA. His expected would 40 points out ofthe 42.

Appreciate your response.

Thank you,
bsmdcan

Research in a lab with chemistry teacher is the equivalent of science fair work. It is very hard to count IB extended essays as research papers.

I believe Ohio might consider him resident since your husband still lives there and pays taxes. Your husband should check on that with Ohio State University to make sure.

Ranking is a problem in getting admitted to state schools in Texas. Not sure many colleges care.

Your IB score has no relevancy to GPA. Your school should provide you a transcript for all the classes taken since 9th grade. The transcript will provide the GPA instructions.

Thank you texaspg.
