I don’t know. I would make a tape of highlights from your soccer playing and create a soccer resume to submit to coaches if you truly play at such a high level. Might be too late this year. If you take a gap year, prepare for the SAT and come back here to strategize the best college choices for your profile.
Regarding predicted scores at NYU - they do accept based on predicted IB scores but they “reserve the right to withdraw an offer of admission if final results are not within close range of the predicted results.”
NYU is not as selective as most of the schools on your list. I assume you will not require financial aid if you’re applying to NYU - this might help your chances at schools that are need-aware for internationals.
Thank you @BldrDad
Just out of curiosity, do any of you guys know people who have been accepted at any of these colleges? @gearmom, @BldrDad, @mnm111?
@ibstudentt - That 1.34% with GPAs under 3.25 at Harvard is not an acceptance rate - it’s the number of students (approximately 20 per year) in that GPA range. I am sure every one of them was accepted because they were exceptional in some way - most likely they are top athletes with an AI high enough to meet Ivy League requirements.
You never answered the question about SAT subject tests? Unfortunately, trying to convince US, is not going to help you get into these schools. You are going to have to think about alternatives, because I don’t see you getting into any of these schools.
Oh, I did bad on the subject test too…
@ZBD5421, not even NYU?
@BldrDad, what is an AI?
@ibstudentt you are being extremely arrogant. You really should do more research into your choices. For Chicago, the mid SAT range is 1450 - 1550. Yet this is out of 1600. Do you realise that your 1600 SAT score is so far away from these schools - and that your SAT score is telling you something? The purpose of the SAT is to discriminate between students. You are not meant to attend one of these colleges - even if by some miracle you were to get in, you would probably struggle to keep up with the rigour of the coursework and the constant papers, tests, midterms you have to do. The academics at Stanford or Duke are difficult even for the best of students. Be more realistic.
@ibstudent My son’s BFF goes to NYU and friends at our local public high school entered HYS and M this year.
@ibstudentt - I attended one of the colleges on your list, my daughter is at Harvard, and I know students who were accepted (and rejected) by most of them. For the most part, these kids had really excellent credentials- they were IB diploma candidates with perfect or near perfect grades and SAT or ACT scores, along with impressive extracurriculars. Some got into one or more of these schools, some didn’t.
Did you apply to UK universities too? If so, I’m curious what offers you received.
Excuse me @neweducation, how am I being arrogant?! You tell me that I would not be able to handle the workload! Alright, let me tell you I have attended Harvard SUMMER PROGRAM, where we covered a semesters amount of work in 7 WEEKS! And what did I end up with? In computer Science, an “A” AND IN my SECOND COURSE “Capital Markets and Investment” I RECEIVED A B+. So please do not call me arrogant! I have understood that I have a horrible SAT score, you have all made that clear! You tell me that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the work load! Really!? REALLY! Do you know what I am doing now!? AT the current moment I am:
- Finishing the IB, which is considered the toughest program in the world!!!
- I attend a boarding school where I am a full-time proctor in a dorm full of spoiled 7th and 8th grade brats, who I have to supervise day and night, making sure they do their homework, go to breakfast and dinner, attend their EC's etc, etc!
- I attend Tennis 1x week, Soccer 2x week, coach hockey 1x week
- I do analyses of the stock market for radio programs
- I excel in school, I am the top 5% of my class.
- I have played at a professional level of soccer when I lived in Denmark, and when I lived in Russia for 3 years!
- I have been on 2x volunteer trips to South Africa and Romania!
So please reconsider your words!
@BldrDad, I have not applied to UK unis. But thank you for your answer. Can I ask you, how did your daughter get into Harvard? Thank you for your professional and helpful response, unlike some others
@ibstudent There are oodles of IB diploma candidates in the US. Do you need financial aid? Your last chance for US college next year is probably the UMaine schools with only NYU from your list a slight possibility.
I don’t need financial aid.
Spend $40 and apply to the campuses at UMaine Orono and Farmington so that you have some options. You’ll get an American/French Canadian experience. You can then take a year away from Maine and study at a college in a different state as an exchange. You’ll fit in as a hockey captain and you are used to the weather. They have very nice skiing. You can always transfer at some point and your SAT scores will not follow you. So do well in school and your junior year, you could transfer.
Can you recommend other colleges that I can apply to now? I will apply to ^ those
Well, I’ll just have to wait and see
Those are the ones that I know for certain that are still accepting, rolling admissions. My own son is considering UMaine Orono (Farmington is an LAC) because he is STEM. I think that you need to get your footing in America if that is what you want to do and you will be more able to be successful at a state flagship or top regional public LAC. Check out their websites. A lot of things will work in your favor at those kind of places. If you just didn’t test well, it would be better for you to be a big fish in a smaller pond to acclimate.
