Hey guys,

well as you can tell from my name , i am an IB student. Due to scheduling at my school, i can only take two sciences and i chose to take bio and chem( i chose bio over physics... and had to take chem). This is because i am going to major in something like biology etc. with eventual goal to get into medical school.. so my question is ... since i could not take physics in grade 11(which i finished) and grade 12, can i take beginner's physics in university or will i be terribly behind...also, i need physics for the MCATs... i believe first year university physics.. so will i have time to take beginner's physics and then university physics?? Someone please let me know!

i would really appreciate if i got some answers!

Not taking Physics would only hurt your chances if you applied to a university that greatly valued Physics, such as MIT. Most universities, including the elites, do not expect students to take Biology, Chemistry and Phsyics in high school. As such, I would not worry about not taking Physics.

You will be definitely behind, but you should do well in college-level Physics I (mechanics) provided that you have a solid background in calculus and vectors. IB Math HL should be more than enough to give you the necessary background.

thanks for the answers! but part of my question still remains unanswered… will i be able to take introductory physics in university so that i know the grade 11 and 12 stuff… and then be able to take first year university physics… so how does that work?

Some students in my daughter’s IB take honors bio, honors chem, and then two years of IB Bio, so no physics in that track and it’s never seemed to be a problem.

And you can take basic physics in college.
